“It’s nothing bad, I promise.”

Master Zane let out a sigh, and already Tate felt as if he was being a burden.

“I’m sure it isn’t. Let’s not worry about that subject right now. You give it some thought, and if you decide you need advice in that area, we can add it to the list. If not, that’s okay too. Sleep on it, and we’ll discuss everything in the morning.”

“Okay. I can do that.”

“Good boy.”

The warmth in Master Zane’s voice was strong enough that Tate could see the man’s wide smile in his mind.

“Thank you, Sir.”

Tate smiled as well, one of the few times he had since his world had crashed around him, the majority of them being when he was with Rogan.

“What else can I help you with, Tate?”

Tate picked up on Master Zane’s polite way of bringing their conversation to an end without giving Tate the impression he was being dismissed. God, he missed this life, this way of being.

“That’s all, Sir. You helped a lot.”

“I’m glad. How does nine o’clock sound to you?”

“Whenever you say, Sir. I’ll be right on the dot.”

“Good boy. Then I expect to hear from you then.”

After they’d said their goodbyes, the sensation of lightness remained that had surrounded him when Master Zane had first answered the phone.

Tate checked the time and before he could stop himself, calculated the exact amount of minutes it would be before Rogan arrived to pick him up. He’d always done that when he was waiting for his Daddy.

He tore his gaze from the screen then clutched the phone to his chest. If he was being smart, he’d forget about stressing over whether he should talk about money with Master Zane and confess what was going on between him and Rogan.

Even though he’d admonished himself already over how Rogan was off-limits for anything other than friendship, he wondered how easy that would be.

Maybe the person he needed to be the most honest with was himself.
