I raked my eyes down his muscular torso and followed his happy trail to his crotch. He wasn’t hard yet, but he was definitely a shower already. My dragon wagged his tail. Yes. My dragon had fur on his tail and liked to wag it whenever he was happy.

Together, we made our rounds of the Scale B&B house making sure we were safely tucked inside it together. In the kitchen, I found the bottle of spiced rum I saved just for this occasion. It sucked to find myself on my own for the first time in a long time but at least Ry and his dick were here.

“Are you all on the Hemlock Pack link?” he asked, walking into the kitchen.

I opened the rum, having waited until he was there to watch me do it. Usually, it was omegas who worried about someone drugging them but I wasn’t taking any chances.

“I’ve never been sure. I mean Frost and Juda made the Moonscales and the Hemlocks. So, maybe. Why? You hearing my thoughts?”

“Curious,” he shrugged.

“Writing a paper about dragons in the pack?” I arched a brow as I searched the rental cabinets for glasses.

I found them and poured us something to drink while Ry considered my question.

“Not really. You just---”

“Smell a bit like fur,” I made a show of sniffing my own shoulder. “My mum was a fox. A Cromwell.”

“Oh! Cromwell Enterprises. Your sister---” I slapped my hand over his lips before he could say anything about Daliah.

“If it’s good, I don’t want to talk about her and if it’s bad I’ll toss your ass out in the hurricane.”

He slapped my hand away laughing.

“Your sister put out that perfume that my mom is obsessed with,” he said. “Dalquin.”

“Oh, that. Yeah. Years ago, but I don’t want to talk about her. She’s living her best life and I’m living mine.”

“A falling out?” he asked.

Thunder cracked overhead again and we both jumped. Instead of answering his question, I took his hand and entwinedour fingers. There was no use in playing shy or coy. I would never be demure. That trend died before my egg ever cracked open. I led him into the living room and gave him a gentle shove onto the sofa before sitting down on his lap.

His hand found my ass. So I knew his brain and dick got the message.

“What? Did she send you to see if I were mad at her?” I asked, wiggling around on his lap to get comfortable and make him ‘uncomfortable’ enough to forget what he asked me.

“Never met her. Didn’t know you were that Sequin until you said it.”

“Who else has my name? Who besides Lotus Cromwell-Moonscale would name their baby Sequin?” I laughed and took another long swallow of my rum.

“I don’t know.”

“I’m glad you didn’t recognize me. You’re not here to fuck Glitter Bomb or Cromwell Enterprises. You’d either get an infection from all the glitter going up your dick or stone burn from headquarters. I’m a much better place to be stuck during a hurricane.”

Ry laughed and it was a hearty sound. I always loved how wolves laughed. It was deep and throaty and fucking perfect sometimes. I ran my hand over his chest and belly. He didn’t have a lot of hair but then again most of them didn’t when their wolves were hiding from a thunderstorm.

I set aside our empty glasses and turned to straddle Ry’s lap. His hands found my hip and his fingers dug into me when thunder sounded again. The wind whipped around the house. I trembled and hated myself for it.

“I’m not afraid. Just excited,” I lied.

“Me too,” Ry smirked. “It’s a compliment to our standards that we’re both so damn excited.”

He laughed again and I had to kiss him. I needed to taste his smart mouth lips and shut up his questions about my sister. Someone once told me wolves asked about everyone else’s families because they were always thinking of their own. Which was fine. I thought about mine a lot too but didn’t want to right now. The lights flickered and I drew in a sharp breath. The crystals would last through the storm but sometimes the winds and rain would interrupt the flow of magic and things flickered.

Ry pulled me closer, and I wrapped my arms around his neck. My dragon leaned against my ribs as if he reached out to the thick-furred wolf living inside of him.

“I’ll keep you safe,” I whispered, feeling braver now that I had someone else to consider. “Dragons fly through this shit all the time. You wouldn’t catch me dead doing that unless I was saving a baby or some shit, but I can keep you safe.”
