“Why?” I ask the toilet as I throw the shirt down on the floor, leaving me in a tank top.

I glare down at the gray material clinging to my tits because that’s wet too.

“Not cool. Not fucking cool.”

I spin around in the small bathroom and turn the faucet on to hot, leaning my face over the sink.

Thankfully there’s a hand soap dispenser on the counter.

After filling my palm with themountain rainscented liquid, I slap my hands together and lather roughly.

“Why?” I can hear my fragile mental state when I ask it this time. “Why did that have to happen in front ofhim?”

I fill my lungs, then hold my breath and scrub my soapy palms all over my face.

When my chest starts to burn, I cup my hands under the running water and scoop it up over my mouth.

Suds clear, my lips part, and I suck in a big breath.

Once all the soap is washed off, I pump more into my hand and start the process all over again.

Toilet water.

On my face.

Fuck. Me.

Chapter 26

Sterling

The wailalmost has me tripping off the last step.

Catching my balance, I stand still, listening.

“What the fuck, World?” Courtney’s voice is clearer than it should be as she cusses out the planet.

That girl can flip from meek to crass in a second.

“Why?”

I narrow my eyes at hearing her again.

Stepping carefully, I turn the corner on the side of the cabin and see the culprit.

The open bathroom window.

I also see Fisher and Cook standing a few yards off with grins on their faces.

“Not cool. Not fucking cool.” Courtney’s tone is still angry, but there’s a hint of distress coming through that keeps my mouth in a flat line.

When the guys look like they might say something, I shake my head and point down the path, silently telling them to keep their mouths shut and to move on.

“Why?” Her voice is quieter, and I’m sure I’m the only one who can still hear her. “Why in front ofhim?”

Him.

Me.
