If I time this right, maybe I can see her dressed in nothing but the jacket.

Chapter 182

Courtney

Coffee mug in hand,I walk to the back door, looking for the source of the sound that woke me up.

It’s rhythmic.

It’s…

I hold the mug away from myself as I choke on my coffee.

It’s Sterling.

Chopping wood.

With a literal axe.

As snowflakes slowly dance around him.

And his shirt is open.

Of course it’s open, because he’s working up a sweat.

Composure gathered, I lean against the doorframe and take another sip of my coffee.

We got our first real snowfall a couple weeks ago, and that was the first time I saw Sterling light a fire in the living room fireplace.

I knew it was real wood crackling away as we snuggled together on the couch watching a movie. But I guess I hadn’t considered where that firewood came from.

The continued thuds from outside are proof that the wood comes from Sterling.

Not feeling guilty in the least, I settle in and watch him. Knowing damn well I’m going to insist he goes into the hot tub tonight to soothe his muscles.

And knowing just as well that I’ll join him.

I smileas I greet our next round of guests.

Three cabins’ worth.

All women.

It’s the most excited I’ve been for group lunches, wanting to talk to all of them.

But it’s the most grateful I’ve been for basically moving into Sterling’s house. Because I only have to share the shower with him.

The second paycheckis just as awkward to accept.

But I keep my promise of not making it weird.

I lookover at my passenger seat. “This is a good idea, right?”

Golden eyes blink back at me.
