Either the guys are taking a detour, or they’re just being extra loud, but either way, I need to get Courtney to her cabin before anyone sees her like this.

Heaving out a breath, I break the kiss and step back. “Sorry. I couldn’t help it.”

Courtney presses her lips together, like she’s trapping in another laugh. “No apology needed.” She wraps her arms around herself. “But if you could hand me my pants, my legs are getting a little cold.”

“Right.” I turn and find them, then hand them to Courtney. “I’d like to walk you back, but I should go through the house to head off anyone who might be drunk wandering.”

Courtney nods and bites down on the start of another smile.

“What?” I ask.

Her smile wins. “You, um, might want to put your dick away.”

I look back up to her. “You don’t think this is a good look?”

Courtney snorts, then slaps a hand over her mouth.

I shake my head, my own lips pulling into a smile. “Put your pants on.”

Sterling struggles a bit to get himself tucked away, making me smile all over again.

Palms on my cheeks.

Lips against mine.

My smile fades, just a bit.

His reaction to my laugh was so… heartbreaking.

He looked so… surprised.

And not just surprised. Completely caught off guard.

Like he’d witnessed a rainbow in the middle of a blizzard.

I swallow, fighting down the urge to go to him. To smile at him again.

Sterling has been a gruff man since day one.

A hard man to get along with.

A closed-off man.

And I always just attributed it to his nature.

That he was justlike that.

But…
