I lower myself onto the bench across frommy girl.

As irritating as Fisher might be, his idea of bringing Courtney out on a trip has merit.

If I’m on that trip.

And she needs help staying warm at night.

I half expectedSterling to blow up when Fisher called meour girl. But instead of snarling or glaring or any of the other things I’ve watched Sterling do, he did nothing.

And it makes a weird sort of unease unfurl in my stomach.

Is he done with me now?

Did he get his taste, and that’s all he wanted?

I pick up a potato chip and stare at my plate as I break it in half before eating it.

But really, so what if he’s done?

He’s my boss. It was fun, but we never should’ve started… whatever it is that we started.

I eat the second half of the chip.

Good news, he pretty much ignores me around the Lodge anyway, so no one will notice a difference in behavior.

But…The other half of my subconscious pipes up.He wasn’t acting like a man who only wanted to finger you once and call it quits.

“I’m not taking you inside. Because if I do. I’ll fuck you. And I’m not fucking you tonight.”

He made it sound like he wanted to. And that he had intentions todo itanother time. But I still don’t understand why he didn’t want to fuck me last night.

Andohmygod why am I being such a crybaby about this?

It’s not just up to Sterling.

I can call it quits too.

This is in my control as much as it’s in his.

But then I look up. And I know I’m doomed.
