“Looks delicious! Thank you so much.” I grinned widely up at her as she placed multiple plates on the table. From the corner of my eye, I watched Trevor shift in his seat, most likely having to fix himself under the table.

“Hope you guys enjoy it!” With one last smile, she left.

“Ready to eat?” I turned to Trevor with a teasing grin.

“You’ll pay for that later.” His tone held a promise that he would get me back for what I just did.

“Whatever you say.” I winked at him.

This time, I leaned forward and took an actual sip of my milkshake. My eyes widened at the taste, looking at Trevor. “Woah, that is so good.”

“Told you.”

Taking a few more sips, I reached for the basket of onion rings. Trevor ordered a bunch of things that he knew I liked—French fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, fried pickles, even a plate with mini sliders on it.

With a growling stomach, I dug into the food, Trevor doing the same across from me. I liked that he didn’t need to fill the silence, the two of us having become more comfortable around each other this past week. I almost felt as comfortable around him as I did Josie, which was a big deal.

“Man, I’m going to have to go to the gym tomorrow to work off all this food.” I groaned a bit later, completely full. Between the two of us, we managed to eat everything, including the two shakes that we shared.

“You know, you could come workout with me tomorrow.”

“Workout together?’

“Yeah, why not.” Trevor shrugged.

“You’ll make me do tons of push-ups, won’t you? Some of us aren’t professional athletes.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t go hard on you.”

Yeah, I didn’t believe that for one moment. Although, working out together could be fun.

“As long as you don’t get me up at the crack of dawn.”

With that look on his face, I knew I would probably regret agreeing.

“You still aren’t going to tell me where we’re going?” I asked a little bit later. Once we had paid at the diner, Trevor ushered me back to the car without telling me where he was taking me next. At first, I thought we were heading back home, but he pulled off the freeway before our exit. Since the sun was almost set, it got increasingly harder to pay attention to our surroundings and make a guess.

He flashed me a grin, squeezing my thigh. “You’ll like it, I promise.” I really shouldn’t have been surprised Trevor planned a whole day but the fact that he did was super sweet. I never went out with someone who planned a date that took up the whole day. Most of my dates had been meetups at bars or coffee shops.

I was excited to see what else he had planned. When he pulled into a dark, empty parking lot, I looked out the window with a raised eyebrow.

“If you wanted to kill me, the pumpkin patch would have been a better option.”

“Too many people.” His voice was so serious, I couldn’t tellif he was joking.

“You do know I wouldn’t make a good kill, right? I wouldn’t fight that hard so there really wouldn’t be a thrill.”

I glanced out the front window, barely making out a dark building up ahead. There were only a few lights on, but you could tell no one was around. If he did want to take me out, he could’ve totally gotten away with it. No one knew I was with him.

He must have felt my apprehension because he laughed and turned the car off.

“I’m not going to kill you.” He opened the door and started to get out, looking at me over his shoulder. “Not yet, at least.” He slipped out and shut the door behind him. I sat there gaping as he came around to open my door.

“Come on, Sunshine.” Reaching in, he unclipped my seatbelt and tugged me out of the car.
