Realizing they were all staring at me, I quickly cast my thoughts aside, my cheeks turning pink. Getting caught checking out your boyfriend was one thing but being caught by a whole group of kids was another.
“Uh yeah, let's get you guys in position,” I said, ignoring Wyatt’s smirk.
With the help of Landon and Wyatt we managed to wrangle all the kids on the ice. Trying to get all fifteen kids in position with all their gear on was a little bit of a hassle, especially with them all trying to stay upright with the weight of the gear.
I cautiously moved around the ice in my shoes as I took pictures. Judging from the wide gins and excited expressions on the kids' faces, this was the best day ever.
Making sure Wyatt and Landon stood in the back with the kids surrounding them, I snapped as many pictures as I could. I knew with kids the amount of time to get a good picture was very limited.
I was proven right when not even five minutes later, the kids started fussing. Most shifting on their feet or messing with theirhockey gear. The fact that all fifteen 7-year-olds managed to last this long was amazing.
“All done!” I sent them all a grin. “Good job guys, looking like models already.” The kids let out a collective cheer before skating off with each other, talking animatedly.
“That’s it?” Landon questioned, walking over to me. The fact he easily walked across the ice without falling had me slightly jealous.
“Yep. I’ll add the finishing touches to the article this week and it should be in the following issue.” I had pushed for this piece to be in the next issue even if it was cutting it close with our deadline. Aside from the fact that Landon needed this more than he let on, I knew putting it in next month's issue would be the perfect time. Christmas was just around the corner and people would love to come ice skating.
“Oh good.” Landon looked unsure of what to say next, making me smile. “Thank you, Josie.”
“No problem, really.” And I meant it. This was my job and if it helped his business then I was all for it. Plus, the two of us have started to like one another. He will always be Wyatt’s grumpy-ass older brother, but he wasn’t a bad guy.
“I better go make sure the kids don’t hurt themselves.” With a nod he walked across the ice towards the kids skating around. As soon as he left Wyatt skated up to me. He already towered over me but with his skates I had to crane my neck back to see his face.
“Did you know you look sexy taking pictures?”
I arched an eyebrow at his words as he placed his hands on my hips. “You are so weird.”
“Yep, but you love me.”
I playfully scrunched my nose up. “Unfortunately, I do.”
Wyatt tickled my sides, making me laugh and squirm in his hold.
“You don’t have plans for tonight, right?” I shook my head at his question.
“I’m taking you out tonight,” he declared.
“Oh? Where to?” The idea of going out made me excited. It had been a little bit since we went out to eat, mostly spending time at his place or mine.
“That’s a surprise.” Wyatt placed a soft kiss to the tip of my nose. “I’ll pick you up at your apartment around 6?”
“That works perfectly.”
Gives me enough time to get home from work and get changed.
“Wyatt!” Landon yelled down the ice, breaking our little moment up. Wyatt looked like he wanted to throttle his brother for interrupting us.
“I better get back to work anyways. Get these pictures uploaded,” I gestured to my camera around my neck.
“Fine,” he huffed. He went to kiss me, but I quickly placed a peck on his lips before pulling away. We were standing there in front of kids—it was definitely not the right time for a make out session.
“I’ll see you later,” I grinned at the cute little pout on his face.
“I love you,” he called after me.
“I love you too.”
Gripping Wyatt’s hand tightly,I ignored the flash as camera’s clicked around us. Wyatt’s big body helped block me from some of it as we slipped through the doors of the restaurant.
