“Yes, Jenna! Put your head up and smile!” he instructed, almost as if he were Leonardo from our engagement photos. Grumpily, I lifted my head up and stared at Liam. He put on a smile, telling me what to do. Sighing, I put on a smile and did a little pose while Liam took a picture. “Beautiful.”
“Let me see,” I said, taking off the glasses and hat.
“No, ’cause you’ll want to delete it.”
“I won’t. Give it.” I stood in front of him and reached for the phone, but he put it above his head, way out of my reach.
“Liam!”
“Nope, sweet cheeks. You can see it if you promise not to delete it.” He stared down at me, his blue eyes twinkling.
“I won’t.”
“Say ‘I promise not to delete the picture’.”
Rolling my eyes, I repeated the stupid words.
He brought his phone back down for me to see. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I didn’t look half bad in the picture, and the hat actually kind of matched.
“See? Not that bad.” He slid his phone back in his pocket.
“Now your turn!” I exclaimed, reaching for a gigantic hat that was an ugly pink, with a feather. “Here.” I put it in his hands as I searched for the right pair of sunglasses. Seeing a pink pair that would cover his eyes, I gave them to him. “Okay, here.”
Taking out my phone, I switched it to camera. I looked up at Liam and saw that he was still standing there, looking at the things in his hands.
“Come on, put them on,” I urged.
“No, they are ugly,” he said.
“That’s the point. Hurry! No one is looking right now,” I lied, not looking to see if anyone was.
“Fine.” He slipped on the horrendous pink hat and glasses. When he looked up at me, I choked on my laughter. He looked terrible for once. So he didn’t look good in everything he tried on. “Hurry and take the picture,” he muttered.
“Okay, pose!” Bringing my phone up, I bit my bottom lip to stop the laughter that wanted to burst free. It became worse as he cocked his hip to the side and put his hand up in the air, making a peace sign. Snapping a few photos, I finally let myself laugh. That was too funny. I was definitely going to keep this photo forever.
“Stop laughing!” he whined immediately taking the stuff off.
“You two are such a cute couple.” an unfamiliar voice said suddenly. I turned to see an older couple standing there. They were definitely tourists like us because they were wearing “I Love Barbados” shirts and those foam sun visors on their heads.
“We used to act the same way when we were younger,” the same lady said, smiling fondly at us then back at her husband.
“Young love. You two make sure to tell one another you love each other every day,” the husband said. Liam and I stood there, staring at them awkwardly.
“Have a good day, you two love birds,” they both said before turning and leaving the store. Looking back at Liam, I gave him a confused look. He just shrugged back at me.
“But you know what they say. ‘You have to respect your elders,’ so I better do as they say,” he said, moving toward me.
“Huh?” I stared at him like a weirdo.
“I love you,” he said, coming so close to me that our chests were touching. I blushed. It was kind of weird hearing him say those three words to me. It had been a long time since anyone told me they loved me. My heart swelled in my chest.
“I love you too,” I squeaked out.
“You better.” He dipped his head and pecked my lips. “Let’s get out of here,” he said once he pulled back. Grabbing my arm, he led me out of the store. My lips were tingling as we walked out, even though the kiss was just a peck. It was now mid-afternoon as we walked a little further down the boardwalk.
“Want a drink?” Liam asked when we saw a little cafe ahead.
“Sure.” Going in, I saw it was a cute little cafe and it smelled of amazing coffee. It was kind of packed, but not too bad. While I waited I figured out what I wanted and tried to ignore Liam’s fingers, which were stroking my bare lower back. Once we had ordered and gotten our drinks, we headed down to the beach. I sipped my Frappuccino and held back a moan at how good it was, but unfortunately, Liam still heard it.
