She stared up at me with her big blue eyes.
“Put my babies inside your belly. Give you the life you deserve. I swear I will.”
Tears glistened in her eyes, and I carefully wiped them away before kissing her again. Finally, I knew she needed to sleep, so I pulled free from her body. She whimpered at my distance, but I was quick to run my fingers up her wet slit and push my come back into her body.
Gently, I took her into my arms and held her tightly.
Nothing else mattered.
Not the cold.
Not the hunger.
Not even the fear of whether or not we’d make it out of this place alive.
Right now, there was only her with me.
And I wasn’t letting go for anything. I’d do what I needed to do to help Troy get us out of here, even if it meant fucking eating Dean.
Chapter 31
Elena
The warmth surrounding me was comforting, a cocoon against the relentless cold that tried to seep into every crevice of our wreckage. Something stirred in me, pulling me from sleep. My mind was groggy but alert as if it knew something had changed.
When I blinked my eyes open, the fire's dim light cast flickering shadows against the cabin walls. And there, watching me, was Troy.
I inhaled softly, my chest tightening with something I couldn’t name.
He was lying beside me, his arm tucked under his head, green eyes locked onto mine, silent, intense, unreadable.
A slow, tired smile curled my lips. “How long have you been back?”
Troy’s expression softened as he reached out, trailing his knuckles lightly along my cheek.
“A few hours,” he murmured.
I frowned. “You didn’t wake me?”
He smirked, the firelight catching in his eyes, making them glint with something warm, something familiar, which tugged at my heart.
“You needed rest.”
I shifted slightly, feeling the steady rise and fall of Adrian’s breathingbeside me. His warmth pressed into my back, grounding me between them and keeping me safe.
I sighed, my mind slowly waking up as I reached for Troy’s hand.
“Did you have any luck?” I asked softly.
Troy’s smile faltered, his jaw clenching as he shook his head.
“No,” he admitted. “But I have faith.”
His lips found mine, pressing a soft, lingering kiss, and for a moment, I let myself sink into it, let it chase away the disappointment.
Troy pulled back just enough to rest his forehead against mine, his fingers threading through my hair.
I exhaled shakily.
