“You don’t understand anything, do you? The last thing I want to do is relocate my people, but it’s my last resort. This is my only option to save us all. It just happens to be a massive bonus that Father Dear gets what’s coming to him. He doesn’t deserve my love.”
“You don’t even know him, Tavionna. He didn’t know you existed. Your mother never told him!”
“I don’t want to hear excuses for him!” she screeches at me, her top lip curling back in a snarl. “I made my intentions very clear when we last spoke, and nothing you say is going to stop me. I have more power than any Priestess before me thanks to my bonds that unlocked my goddess given gifts. My people will be saved, and yours better get out of my way if they want to live. I will not be stopped.” Her hair whips around her in a wind that shouldn’t be possible inside the caves, her marks glowing brightly as she lifts her hands.
“Tavionna, please…” She gives me a manic grin as she throws her hands out, a gust of wind throwing me back at a speed that should have been impossible. I scream as my arms and legs flail, searching for purchase but finding none.
I sit up in bed, screaming and panting. Vahru jumps up, his body crouching before me on the bed as the door is thrown open and Kosiiba stands in the doorway, knives in hand. They both look around, wide-eyed, before turning to me as I pant for breath.
“Kari? What is it?” Vahru spins around, cupping my face as he searches me for injuries.
Batting his hands away, I take deep breaths to calm myself as I wrap my mind around what Tavionna said. Her people will be saved. She doesn’t want to leave the caves. Save them all. Something is hurting them, the entire population. She gave me the answer I’ve been looking for all along.
I smile as I look up at Vahru. “I know how to stop Tavionna. I can fix this.”
