He laughs and tucks some hair behind my ear. “Of course we could. It may take a few years or more, but eventually, it will be populated naturally and we can explore safely.”
“That would be amazing.” My words are whispered as I turn to stare at the planet, the swirling colors mesmerizing me as I dream of a chance to walk along its surface. His fingers rub along my cheek, tracing my lips before sliding down my neck to my chest.
“You’re amazing.” His voice is a husky whisper, and I turn, my eyes captured by the pure love and emotion in his own. His hand cups my cheek and slowly pulls me to him, our lips touching ever so softly. I couldn’t stop the sigh that leaves me even if I wanted to. I melt against him, overwhelmed by his immense tenderness.
He’s become so dominating, so possessive and alpha that I almost forgot he has this soft, tender side to him. I lift myself up, straddling his body as my hands slide into his hair, my fingertips grazing his horns. His cock jumps beneath me, and I fight the urge to giggle at my own power over him.
His hands slide up and down my sides, massaging and squeezing all the right places as he continues to kiss me in that soft and languid way that turns my brain to an emotional mush. I press my body to his, love and an overwhelming need to be as close to him as possible taking over me. When his arms wrap around me and hold me tight, I nearly weep.
I pull back enough to look at him, my eyes filling with tears. “I love you more than anything. You know that, right?”
His eyebrows crease slightly as he studies me. My bottom lip trembles as I fight the urge to cry, fear creeping up my throat as he stays silent. He tucks some hair behind my ear, his hand lingering on my face as he continues to study me. I watch as his eyes roam over my face, tracing my lips before slowly rising to meet mine, where they stay for several heartbeats.
“I’m nothing without you, Kari. You are my everything.”
I let out a surprised giggle as a tear slips free. He swipes it away with his thumb before he kisses me gently, holding me to him in a grip that’s almost painful, that makes it hard to breathe, but I don’t care. I need him like I need oxygen.
He swiftly sits up, his hands ripping my top over my head and tossing it aside in one fluid motion. His own shirt is ripped off in the same manner before he hugs me tight and kisses me as if his life depends on it. He holds me to him as he swings his legs over the side of the bed, standing us up easily.
His fingers are gentle but swift as he shoves my pants down my body, his own following suit. Our lips never part from each other as our clothes are shed. I sigh in contentment as our skin meets, his arms easily lifting me up his body to hold me. He turns and lays me on my back, his body pressing mine to the bed.
I curl my fingers in his hair, holding him to me. His hands slide across my body, and I hum when he hits sensitive spots, needing more. He pushes on my thigh, unwrapping my legs from around his waist as he kisses across my face to my neck, his face burying in my hair. His weight shifts, and he slides into me as he gently bites onto my neck, my breath hissing from me.
My arms wrap around his chest, squeezing him to me. He leans back enough to look at me, his eyes boring into mine before he kisses me with a passion that makes my head spin. I pant for breath as he makes soft, sweet love to me, my emotions running high as my body is overwhelmed. I pant his name as I come over and over, and he holds me tight and reminds me that he has me, he’s never letting go.
Tears leak from my eyes as he finishes, holding me tight and kissing my tears away. He somehow manages to flip us without ever leaving my body. I lay atop his chest, his hands stroking my hair gently as his tail wraps around my ankle, and I sigh. I know at this moment that no matter what happens, we have each other, and that’s all I could ever ask for.
Chapter 19
Kari
It’s silent in the room for a long time, only the sound of Vahru’s breathing and heartbeat sound against my ear as I lay on his chest. His hands continue to stroke my hair or my back as he soothes me, and I almost feel guilty. I should be the one soothing him. He’s the one who’s struggling right now, not me.
“You know, when all this is figured out, you and your dad will be fine. This secret wasn’t his, it was Vionelle’s, and you won’t blame him for this forever.”
“I know. I just needed time to come to terms with that, I guess.”
I lift my head to look at him, pushing some hair out of my eye. “I knew you just needed to remember what was important. This isn’t important, it’s big, but not important. What matters is his safety, our safety, and the future of all of us.”
He hums as he looks at me, his finger booping my nose. “Think about our future a lot, do you?”
He grins at me, and I grin back, dropping my head back to his chest. “Maybe. I think we can live a beautiful life together. We’ll travel, help some others for a while, maybe a couple of years. Then we’ll settle down in our home in the village, or maybe we’ll move to a place like Nara Jido. We’ll have some babies and raise them to be smart and brave. When they move out, we’ll just enjoy our lives together, watching them grow and have babies of their own. We’ll be happy.”
“That sounds…” He sits up, his arms tightening around me as I struggle to balance myself and pull my knees up. “What is that?”
I turn to look at the screen as a light vanishes and a ship floats around the planet. “What the hell?” I hop off his lap, his cock slipping free of me as I jump to my feet, rushing over to the computer. He follows, immediately capturing images and trying to figure out what’s going on.
“No one should be anywhere near that planet. It’s protected because it’s so young, it needs time to develop on its own, no intervention.”
“Then why are they there? It doesn’t appear that they’re landing, just circling…” I watch as the light reappears, almost blinding, and I turn my head a bit, my eyes narrowing. When the light dies, the ship is gone, the planet left unharmed. “What the fuck was that!? Where did it go?”
I turn to Vahru as he types away, watching as he isolates images of the ship, focusing on the little details that can identify it. It’s quiet in the room, aside from his fingers flying across the keys, for several tense moments. When he speaks again, I jump, his voice loud.
“Got ‘em!” He turns to me and grins, clearly proud of himself. He turns back to the screen, continuing to type as I hear the printer whir to life across the room. “It seems that that ship belongs to someone named Kalvin Varquetta. He and his wife own a little tech business.”
An image of one of their ads pops up, quickly followed by another. “It seems their genius son is opening his own business selling specialty tech. Long-range communicators, stealth tech, that sort of stuff.”
“Oh, my God. Get dressed, handsome. We’re leaving.” I turn and rush over to the bed, gathering my clothes from the floor and rushing to the little bathroom in the corner of the room. I quickly clean up and get dressed as he slips on his clothes and grabs the papers from the printer.
