"What the hell am I going to do now?"
I can't go home, I will never go to Marc, and the Chrome Creed don't want me.
For someone who's supposed to be so lucky, it feels like my life is just one shit day after another.
CHAPTER 6
VISIT FROM MOM
Leo
"Pull out those fucking beams! What the fuck are they doing over there?" Tella screams across the clubhouse. Everyone is pitching in, trying to get our home back in order. Unfortunately, this shit isn't going to be a quick fix.
According to Sheriff Bobbins, the bomb that went off was a brick of C4, it's small and hard to see, but they can be deadly. Incredibly, we didn't have any dead guests on our hands. One woman broke her leg, the rest of the injured people left with only scrapes and bruises. I guess I have to be thankful for the little miracles.
"Tella, we can't just leave them over there. They're in the way. Why the fuck am I doing this shit anyway." Feather groans out as he drops one of the beams Tella has him carrying across the clubhouse.
He's one of our newest prospects, and even though the boy eats like a starving hippo, he's the skinniest out of everyone here.
"You're doing this shit because a patched member told you to do it. If Tella asks you to put that mother fucking beam on your head and do a salsa dance, you fucking do it without complaining." I bark at him before I walk by to talk to Tella.
Feather doesn't say a word in response to me. Instead, he puts his head down, and gets back to work. Before Tella became the Treasurer for the Chrome Creed MC, he worked for some of the biggest construction companies in the state. He can build a house from the foundation up to the fucking shingles in the roof. Any renovation work that needs to be done to the club, he's the one to take care of it.
He told me that things would be hectic, but I didn't expect to see my clubhouse in this sort of disarray. I'm hoping Tella still knows what the fuck he's doing.
"Brother, I thought you said we would only need a few pallets of dry wood? What the hell is going on here?" I motion to the wood that is all over the floor as well as the beams and tools.
"Yeah, that's what I fucking thought, but then I got under in the crawl space and saw all the damage. The blast did a fucking number on that side of the clubhouse. I could patch it up, but then four months down the line, when we have another party and half of the guests fall through the fucking floor, you're going to be really pissed off that I didn't do it the..."
I wave my hand to get him to stop his tirade. "Yeah, Yeah, yeah, I hear you. Whatever, get it done. I don't want to have to deal with this shit again. Do you need anything else?"
"I'm going to have to get some PVC pipe for one of the water lines later. I was able to weld the pipe that's there now so that it will hold for a while, but I would like to get that changed out as soon as I can." He pulls off his work glove and wipes the back of his hand against his brow.
A loud knock draws my eye to the front door. Cross opens it, but whoever is at the door he doesn't let in right away. That means the person is not a member of the club. We don't need any visitors right now. Unless it's the fucking police demanding that they be let in, whoever is at the door can kick rocks.
"Leo, you got a visitor," Cross calls out over his shoulder. He doesn't seem tense, nor has he reached for his weapon. I walk over to where he is, and a bright smile erupts on my face when I see who it is.
"Oh, Ms. Maddy. How are you doing?" I pull the older woman into the clubhouse and give her a quick kiss on the cheek. She wraps her short arms around my midsection and gives me a tight squeeze.
When I pull her back, I can see the dark circles under her eyes and the new wrinkles that line her face. It sure does look like she's aged faster than she should've for a woman in her early fifties.
"Leo, you look well. I'm so happy to see you." She puts her hand up and pats my cheek. I'll never understand why she doesn't hate my guts. After all, it was my club that got her son killed. I can say that no matter what we found out, Ms. Maddy never blamed me for Hugh's death. Instead, she thought we were the best thing that could have happened to him in his short life. I disagree, but I'm not going to argue with her about it.
"I'm happy to see you too, but what are you doing here. She must be here about Nisa. I know she knows about the explosion. Maybe she wants to find out what happened. You know you only have to call, and we would've come to you."
"I know that, son, but I have a favor to ask, and I thought it would be best to do that face to face. I was out looking, but I'm tired, Leonidas. I'm so tired, and I don't know where else to look." A lonely tear rolls down her face, and I want to kill whoever made this sweet woman cry.
I pull her to my chest and run a hand over her hair, "Looking for what?"
"Nisa. Didn't they tell you?" She moves back and looks up at me.
"What do you mean, you're looking for Nisa? She's in the hospital." I feel my brain grinding to a halt. The last time I told the boys to check in on her, she was still recovering from her brain injury. Spike or Rumble couldn't get any information out of her. Every time they tried, she was making herself sick. I told them to hold off until they sent her home. That was two days ago. Why now is her mother telling me that she's out searching for her?
"No, last night, she ran off. I don't know where she went. The hospital only looked for a few hours since she was stable when she left. The police say they're looking, but they haven't been able to give me any information. There's no reason for her not to come home, Leo, unless she's in trouble. I don't know what's going on, but I can't lose her too. Please find her." She grips my cut, and I can see the desperation in her eyes.
"I didn't know Ms. Maddy. We would've been out already if I had. I'll round up the boys, and we will go looking for her." I promise. "I'll do my best to bring her home to you."
She smiles at me and takes a step back, "I know you will, Leo. If there's anyone I know who will take care of my Nisa, it's you."
