The next morning I wake up with the weight of the world on my shoulders.
Leo said he wasn't with another woman but I can't pretend I didn't smell the cheap perfume all over him.
Still, he asked me to trust him and right now I don't have any other choice. I'm going to have to trust him to tell me the truth. I hate it but I don't have a choice.
A faint buzzing captures my attention and I shake myself out of my daydream. I turn my head to the bed, the same one Leo didn't sleep in last night, and can feel the anger trying to bubble up inside me again.
I don't have time for anger. I need to keep my wits.
The phone buzzes again. Slowly I walk over and see a text message from a number I don't know."Time to play."
I roll my eyes, ready to delete the message. It's from Marc. He's the only one who talks to me that way.
Then I remember that I have to indulge him. I'm supposed to be pretending I'm still on his team.
"Hey, what number is this?"I text back and his reply is almost instant.
"Don't worry about that, just know I'm only a phone call away. I need you to take care of something."
"What?"
Usually, my jobs only included spying or getting intel on Chrome Creed but I don't think this is the same.
"I need you to meet with Alex from HOH."
My heart drops to my feet. I know Alex, he's a crazy bastard. He's the enforcer from the Hands of Hell MC. The crew is reckless and will flip on me without a moment's notice.
"I don't have any intel on them," I reply hoping that will be enough to get me off the hook with Marc.
"I didn't ask for intel. They want to make sure I've got a link in Chrome Creed. You're my link."He replies and I can feel the sweat already starting in my palms. This is not what I'm used to at all. The Hands of Hell are dangerous. I know Leo and Chrome Creed have an alliance with them but if they are looking for an inside link it's not as solid as any of us think.
"I don't know if I'm going to be able."
"You better make sure you're able. You're going to go in and make every one of them believe what you want me to believe. That you will do anything to get rid of Chrome Creed. If I hear any different, you and I are going to have a much different conversation."
I drop my head and release a deep breath. I don't have a choice. If I don't go through with it then Marc will figure out that I'm playing him. We're so close to ending this. So close to Marc being out of my life for good. I have to do everything I can to make sure that things go as planned.
"When are they expecting me?"
"This morning. Get pretty. Go alone."
That's the last message he sends me. I drop my head into my hands and squeeze. I can feel a migraine trying to push its way through. It's been a while since my accident but I still get headaches from time to time.
There's no use in me delaying it. I'm going to walk into another lion's den and I'm going to have to do it on my own.
Leo isn't going to like this at all but just like me he doesn't have a choice. He knew when Phoenix and I came up with this plan for me to get close to Marc again that I was going to have to do some things he wouldn't like.
I push myself up from my seat and pull my shoulders back. I walk out of the room and scan the main area for Leo. It's best to get this over with.
He's sitting in the kitchen with a plate of food in front of him. I don't say a word just shove the screen of my phone in his line of sight.
"What the fuck, no!" Leo slams his hand down on the table getting everyone's attention.
I pull the seat next to him and catch his gaze.
"Leo, this is happening." Forcing every ounce of courage I have to my eyes I say, "Now tell me everything I need to know about the Hands of Hell."
