“You let me know if she needs anything else. No matter what it is. I want her to have the best care this side of the hospital. You understand me?" I glare at him, just to make sure he understands how serious I am about the matter. If something happens to her here, I'm going to make sure Doc feels my wrath.
"Yeah, I get it, boss, she'll be good as new in no time.” Doc claps me on the shoulder before he sidesteps me and walks into the room to check up on our patient.
Nisa may be my woman now, but I’m still not sure how the rest of the club is going to handle it. I’ve always been the one barking at everyone that we needed to stay away from her, and now I'll have to tell them that they still have to stay away but not because she’s Hugh’s sister but because she’s mine.
They’re going to be disappointed in me, but I don’t give a fuck. It’s my word above all and if I want to change my mind, then so be it.
The perks of being the president.
“Leo, did she wake up? You get any more information out of her?” Spike and Lash are at the bar area. There are onlythree stools still erect, and the bar top is still in shambles. It’s more like the space where the bar area used to be. We’re still working on all the renovations, now with this new threat getting the clubhouse to be aesthetically pleasing is the last thing on my mind.
I pull my shoulders back and walk over to them. Personal problems or not, I’m going to have to explain to all of them what she told me. They’re not going to be happy about it, but we’ve got to get this under control.
This Marc asshole needs to know that he can’t fuck with us or any of our family.
"She gave me a bit of information, but nothing that is going to tell me where the asshole is that did this to her.” I tell the two of them as I get closer.
I'm not sure how much anyone heard of the conversation Nisa and I had, but for some reason, it feels like they can see the guilt all over my face.
I scan both of their gazes waiting for the anger or even the disappointment to shine through, but I don’t see even a drop of either sentiment there. Only determination.
Spike told me before that it was okay for me to be with Nisa and still be a good brother to the club, but now that it’s happening, I wonder if he’s still going to have the same feelings about the subject.
“You think she’s still protecting this asshole?” Lash asks.
“No, I don’t think she’s protecting him, I honestly don’t think she knows where he is right now. According to her, he’s very involved with the underground. Very secretive with his moves.” I rub a hand down the side of my arm, trying to get this dirty feeling off.
Just as I’m about to get myself ready to explain to them the new development between Nisa and I, Rumble comes in the clubhouse, moving fast and beelining straight for us.
“I know that walk. Looks like someone has some news.” Spike says.
All of my focus is on Rumble. If we need to move, I'm ready for it.
"Yeah, I found out a little information, but mostly I’m more concerned about Ms. Maddy.” Rumble huffs out.
“What the fuck? What’s going on with Ms. Maddy? I thought she was safe over there with her neighbor.” Spike steps forward, and I have to push him back. We need to keep our heads about us. That woman has been like a mother to us all. We all want to protect Ms. Maddy, but running off without the proper information isn’t something that we need to be doing.
“I’m not sure exactly what’s going on, but it seems like whoever these fuckers are that came after Nisa are still looking to hurt her mother. I stayed outside the neighbor's house and saw two wanna-be gangsters posted up outside the house, just waiting. I don’t know what for, but it’s clear they’re there for something. I think they may be waiting for Nisa to show up. I don’t like that they’re so close to her mother, though. If they feel like they’re waiting for too long, they could go after Ms. Maddy to get Nisa to come out. You know she will.” Rumble says, tilting his head to the side and letting out a heavy breath.
Nisa’s not the type of person to sit back and let others take care of her. That much is evident from us finding her in the motel, nearly beat to death.
“Not to be the one to address the elephant in the room, but now that we know that Nisa has something to do with what happened here at the clubhouse, are we going to do anything about that? I mean, this affects all of us.” Spike takes a step back. Probably because he knows I’ll swing on him at any second. The tension in the air is tangible.
“Don’t worry about Nisa. We need to figure out who this Marc dirtbag is and until we take him out of the picture, ChromeCreed is going to do what we do best. Protect what’s ours. That includes Ms. Maddy and Nisa. Let's get ready to set up Ms. Maddy someplace safer.” My words are clear, but no one moves. They still want more information.
“Yeah, I get that, brother, but can we trust Nisa... I mean, after all this?” Rumble asks.
“You can trust me, Nisa is my responsibility from here on out. As President, I’m ruling that anything she’s done in the past is wiped clean. If she's going to be subject to any repercussions, I’ll handle it on my own. She’s claimed.”
I finally let the words slip out and am shocked to see that no one's expression has changed. Have I truly been the only one who was against me and Nisa taking that next step?
“Fuck, man, I wish you would have told me this was going to happen.” Spike says and sighs exaggeratedly.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean? Why do I need to tell you, I’m going to take an ol’lady?” My eyes squint when I see the smile curl up on my VP’s face.
“Because, man, I didn’t even put the word out that I’m going to need a new wingman. How am I supposed to get all the ladies now?” Spike jokes, and the four of us wave him off.
I turn on my heel and head to my room.
