“Red,” she replied.

“Good girl, use it if you need to.”

“I’m not going to need it, am I?” she squeaked out.

“She won’t need it, will she?” Roman asked at the same time, appearing alarmed.

Salem grasped hold of her chin. “Alexei would never harm you. I wouldn’t allow you near him if I thought that. All right?”

Well, of course she knew he wouldn’t harm her physically . . . that didn’t worry her.

“I’d pull out his eyeballs and punch him in the trachea. Then while he was choking for breath, I’d shove his eyeballs in his mouth,” she threatened.

Stunned silence greeted her.

Um. Oops?

Shit. She never made mistakes like this. What was she thinking? Opening her mouth, she tried to think of something to say.

Alexei was the first one to let out a bark of laughter. Then Roman followed. Finally, Salem smiled down at her.

Alexei reached for her, lifting her onto his thighs so she was straddling his lap, facing him. He booped her nose.

What the heck was happening right now?

She’d just threatened to tear out his eyeballs and choke him with them and he was laughing?

“My vicious little bunny,” he said. “So cute. What else would you do to me if I harmed you, hmm?”

Ohh.

They thought she was joking. Tamsyn told herself to smile and go along with it. It was better they treated this like a joke than actually believed her.

Even if she was a bit insulted that they didn’t believe her. Obviously, they didn’t believe she could do it when she’d done that exact same thing to a complete asshole of a guy. Althoughshe had incapacitated him first before removing his eyeballs. And it wasn’t her favorite thing to do. But he’d attacked her. He’d thought she was easy prey and that he’d have a fun time with her.

Well, now he wouldn’t be society’s problem anymore.

It’s a good thing they think you’re helpless. That you aren’t capable of violence.

They can’t ever know that side of you or they will reject you.

So she added a giggle for good measure. She thought it sounded a bit forced but they didn’t seem to notice.

“I’d probably knee you in the balls and then cut out your tongue,” she told him.

“So bloodthirsty, I like it,” Alexei told her.

He was such a weirdo.

And that was probably part of the reason she liked him so much.

Because she saw a part of herself reflected in his gaze.

“Luckily for me, I would never harm you.” Alexei cupped the side of her face with his hand. “And you will always have your safeword, yes?”

“I know. I understand.” She wasn’t sure why they kept repeating themselves.

Salem moved in behind her, pressing himself against her back. “We just want to make sure you’re clear. We never want to scare you or harm you accidentally. You can always say your safeword, no matter what.”
