“Hi, I’m Tamsyn,” she said, reaching around Salem to hold out her hand.

Salem scowled down at her while Mark shook her hand. “I’m Mark Roberts. Nice to meet you, Tamsyn. Salem has been keeping you a secret. Oh, unless you’re with Alexei?”

She tilted her head to the side. “What about Roman?”

“You’re with Roman?” His eyes widened.

“Mark, come in. We have work to do,” Salem barked. “Tamsyn, I’ll see you later, okay?”

“Okay.”

To her surprise, Salem leaned down and kissed her cheek.

“Ahh, so she is with you. Sly dog!” Mark slapped him on the back.

“Mark,” Salem snarled.

Oh no. He was really mad. But Mark seemed to ignore him, smiling at her cheerfully. He appeared a bit oblivious.

“I’m sorry,” Mark said. “I’m just pleased to know that this guy isn’t all work and no fun. I haven’t known him that long, but he’s always so serious at work.”

“Salem is very dedicated to his job.”

“He sure is. So what do you do, Tamsyn?”

“Mark, in my office, now!”

“Sure thing, boss!” Mark saluted him and walked down the hallway, following him.

Tamsyn ran back to help Evette.

It was about an hour later when she was slicing some of the bread that Mark walked into the kitchen.

A bit weird.

But maybe he’d smelled the bread.

“All right, I’ve gotten all mixed up, I was trying to find the loo.”

“This place is a rabbit warren. It’s down this way. I’ll show you.” She put the knife down and stepped around the bench.

“You lived here long, Tamsyn?” he asked. “In London, I mean. I can’t quite place your accent.”

“Ahh, no, I haven’t,” she said.

“Sorry it’s been so cold lately. I would say it’s not usually like this, but I don’t like to lie.”

She grinned back at him. “Here is the door to the toilet.”

“Thanks, love. At least you’ll get some warmer weather when you go to Escana in a few weeks, huh?”

“Oh, I still haven’t made up my mind if I’m going.”

“No?” He gave her a surprised look. “I’d love to go. I hear it’s beautiful and the weather is amazing.”

“It would be nice to get out of this cold. I’ll see you later.” She walked back to the kitchen to hunt down her bread.

As she was munchingon a piece of bread, Roman stepped into the room.
