“Hey, what are you up to?” Colt asks.
“I'm eating bonbons and painting my nails,” I mumble, barely even paying attention to him.
“When Pecker texts you, can you say yes?”
“What am I saying yes to?” I tug a cute shirt out and lay it on my bed.
“Going on a date with him.”
“And why am I saying yes?” I shake my head at the first pair of jeans I pull out and toss them into the dresser drawer.
“Because I want to take Leslie out on a date and I know she won’t go if she thinks you’re going to be home alone. Please, Soph.” The pleading in his voice makes me take pity on him.
Colt’s such a nice guy. I’m not trying to stand in the way of him and Leslie going out. I’d happily stay home and binge watch some TV. I don’t know why she feels the need for me to be included in everything.
“Yeah, I can do that,” I mutter as I reach for another outfit.
“You’re the best and I owe you! Thanks, Soph.”
“Of course. But you better keep making me coffee every morning.”
“That I can do.”
“With hazelnut creamer,” I add.
“Yes, ma’am.”
Colt thanks me three more times before he ends the call. I don’t even get to finish unpacking when I get a text from Pecker.
Pecker: I hear you’re free for dinner tonight. Any requests?
Sophia: A handsome man.
Pecker: I can potentially do that, but I'm not really sure. I haven’t heard the verdict yet.
Sophia: Impress me tonight, Romeo.
Chapter 7
Pecker
I spend an ungodly amount of time in my closet trying to find the perfect thing to wear. Bree’s bouncing on my bed, telling me my options are horrible and Danny’s leaning against my headboard playing a video game. They’re wonderful help.
“Hey! I’m home!” Sydney calls from the living room.
“We’re in my room. Come help me, please!”
She walks down the steps and her eyes widen. She glances around at the clothing covering every surface and shakes her head.
“Do you want to tell me why your closet threw up?”
“He’s going on a date,” Bree singsongs.
“Oh, really? Who’s the lucky lady?” Sydney lifts Bree into her arms and twirls her in a circle. Then she leans down and presses a kiss to Danny’s head.
“Sophia. She’s my boss’s girlfriend’s cousin.”
“That sounds… complicated.”
