“Oh, it’s you lot,” Mavis sighs dramatically when she comes wandering out of the kitchen, presumably to investigate what all the noise was about. “In case you forgot, you’re hosting family dinner tonight. You’ve got a whole porch full of people hungry and waiting, and my lasagna is about ready to come out of the oven. You let it burn or get cold, and it’s the last I’m making it for you.”

“We’re coming,” I assure her. I didn’t forget. Okay, maybe I did for a moment.

Sky, however, didn’t even know about it.

“Family dinner?” she looks back and forth between me, Mavis and Ari, waiting for one of us to break.

“You’ll see.” Ari grins before she turns on a dime and skips ahead, leading the way toward the doors that take us out back.

As soon as we step outside, I can hear the gasp escape her. “Only seemed right to celebrate the occasion with everyone who got us here,” I tell her, placing one last kiss on her cheek before we head into the sea of people waiting for us.

Everyone who matters is here. Ari and Mavis are a given, as are Gray and Bryce with their three kids. And it wouldn’t be right without Rat, who keeps mumbling ‘I told you this was huge’ under her breath whenever she walks by me. Jada and Cody, who’ve been regulars every weekend since Sky’s first week here also made it out for the celebration. Even Janelle managed to beat Sky back here in time to surprise her.

“It’s perfect,” she whispers, eyes sparkling. “It’s every love song come to life.” She turns toward me. “I can’t believe I almost gave up on all of it.”

I bend down and kiss her. “You’re the only reason I never did.”
