A second later, I was back in her face. “I’m talking about you setting me up this whole time. I’m talking about you being here to do your father’s dirty work. I’m talking about you lying about your feelings for me.”
“Dion, I have no idea what you are talking about. I didn’t know anything about you or my dad having issues. My feelings are real for you.”
I scoffed. “That’s bullshit, and you are lucky I’m letting you leave here with your life. I suggest you grab your bike and get the fuck on before I change my mind.”
“Dion. I?—”
“Get the fuck out, Pepper! Now!”
She hurried off the couch and stormed out of the house. The only thing she had on was the clothes on her back but that didn’t stop her from finding her bike and leaving. I didn’t want to believe she would do something like that, but how could I be so sure? Maybe that was the reason why Harold never came to get her. None of this shit made sense though.
“Fuck!” I threw the candle that was on the table against the wall when I heard her bike speed away from the house.
I finally decided to let someone in, and I got played.
Iwasn’t sure what happened with Dion from the time we expressed our feelings to him putting me out of his house, but I wasn’t sticking around to find out. The look on his face had me scared, and I didn’t care that the only thing I had on was pajamas, and I didn’t have my phone. I would figure all that shit out later. I just needed to get as far away from him as I could. It was a good thing he had left my keys with my bike. The day he took me out on his bike, I realized we weren’t too far from the main road, so I hopped my ass on my bike and left.
It was too cold for what I had on, and I would probably regret not grabbing my clothes or at least a jacket, but I wasn’t trying to stick around to see if he would kill me. I could have gone back to the room he locked me in, but I also didn’t want to be trapped in there again.
My body shivered, and tears fell from my eyes as the wind whipped through me. I didn’t stop or slow down until I reached Cayenne’s house. I wanted to jump for joy when I saw her car parked out front since I wasn’t sure if she was even home. There was no way I would go to my father’s house or the clubhouse like this. If Cayenne wasn’t home, I wouldn’t have known what to do. I could have probably gone to Jalen’s, but I wasn’t ready to see him.
“Pepper!” Cayenne ran down her steps before I could even shut my bike off.
As soon as I climbed off, she threw herself into me.
Tears streamed down her face as she took in my appearance. “Oh my God. Why are you dressed like this? Where the hell have you been? You know I didn’t believe that bullshit you told me.”
“Don’t cry. I’m fine. I can explain everything, but can we please go in the house?” I shivered as goosebumps covered my body.
“Oh shit, yeah. Come on.” She grabbed my hand and dragged me up the stairs.
The smell of cinnamon filled the warm air when we walked inside the house. I rubbed my arms and walked over to the couch. There was a blanket on the back of the couch, so I picked it up and draped it over my back.
“I have so much to tell you, but I need to shower and put some clothes on before I do. Please tell me you have some hot chocolate and marshmallows.”
“I do, and I have some whipped cream. I’ll make you some while you get yourself together. I’ll even add in some milk.” She winked.
When Cayenne and I were little, my mother would make us hot cocoa with marshmallows and whipped cream whenever we came in from playing outside in the winter. When my mom left, Uncle Evan continued the tradition. We continued drinking it that way when we got older. We probably should have had some wine for the shit I had to tell her, but that cocoa would warm me up faster. I also wasn’t sure if I should drink, because Dion and I hadn’t used protection the few times we had sex, and for all I knew, I could be pregnant. It was too soon to tell or take a test, so I would keep that to myself for the time being.
I left Cayenne downstairs while I went upstairs to the spare bedroom I slept in from time to time. I had clothes at her housejust as she had some in my place. It was a good thing, too, because I was a lot bigger than her and wouldn’t be able to fit any of her clothes.
I grabbed some clothes from the drawer, then got a washcloth and towel from the closet before entering the bathroom. While in there, I let the water warm up as I unraveled my two braids. I needed to wash my hair and scrub my body a few times.
When the water was hot, I stepped inside and let the hot water run over my body and through my hair.
I closed my eyes and couldn’t get Dion’s face out of my head. He looked so angry, and it was a stark difference from the way he looked at me before we fell asleep on the couch. It was weird, and for the life of me, I couldn’t imagine what happened while I was sleeping.
I didn’t have a phone, so I couldn’t call him, and he probably didn’t know where I lived, at least I didn’t think he did. I didn’t think about it at the time, but as I showered, I wondered how he even knew about Jalen. I didn’t even address that or the fact that he had liked me since he saw me, but when the hell was that? Some questions needed answers, but I wasn’t even sure they mattered anymore. I had fallen for Dion, even after he kidnapped me and admitted to wanting to kill my father. The shit was crazy, and I didn’t know what to do.
I scrubbed my body a few times and washed my hair before finally getting out of the shower. Maybe Cayenne could help me put this shit into perspective. I also needed to call my job to make sure I still had one. I wasn’t sure what I would do about my father yet. As long as he didn’t know I was back home, I would worry about him another day. Cayenne and Uncle Evan were the only two people who needed to know I was back.
After I moisturized my body and put on my clothes, I went back downstairs. Cayenne had just come out of the kitchen when I hit the last step.
“I waited until I heard the shower cut off to warm up the milk because I didn’t want it to get cold, and I know how you like to take forever in the shower,” she said as she passed me a mug. The marshmallows and whipped cream were piled high just like I liked it. I licked the top, then carefully walked over to the couch so I didn’t spill anything.
Cayenne and I both sat on the same couch, facing each other. The television was on, but neither of us paid attention to it.
“Whose ass do I need to kick? Having my cousin out here half naked. They were cute pajamas though. Don’t leave anything out.” She licked her pile of whipped cream and tucked one of her legs underneath her.
