“Maybe I should push your ass over,” I teased as I sat down.

“You wouldn’t.”

“You’re right.”

A minute or two passed as we both sat, appreciating the view. As crazy as it seemed, I could see myself doing this with her on a random Saturday morning. Just the two of us on my bike, or our bikes, relaxing and connecting. I never thought I’d see the day I’d think about a woman outside of the bedroom. Pepper had me stepping out of my comfort zone, and the shit was a little uncomfortable.

“I don’t think you ever said it, but are you part of a motorcycle club?” Pepper asked.

“I’m the president of the Blade Outlawz.”

“Wait! I’ve heard of them before, but I never knew it was you. Wow. I’ve been told to stay away from you guys, but nobody ever told me exactly who you guys were. You didn’t have on your jacket that day we met, but now it’s all coming together.” She laughed. “I said met, like we formally met. I meant to say when you snatched me up. This is crazy.”

That made no sense to me. If her people told her to stay away from the Outlawz, why the hell didn’t they show her pictures or something? We didn’t go around wearing our vests or jackets all the time. When I worked or did everyday shit, I didn’t wear my jacket.

“Is it a problem?” I asked her after a few seconds.

“Hell, it wouldn’t matter now.”

“You’re right.” I winked. “When did your love of motorcycles start?”

Her eyes lit up as she pivoted on the bench. She told me it started when she was five, and that was the only way she could spend time with her father. It kinda pissed me off because I couldn’t see myself being like that with my child. I didn’t think I would ever have kids, but I knew I wouldn’t be anything like Harold.

“What about for you?” she asked when she was finished.

I told her the story about my OG and the first club I joined and when I started mine. We talked more about motorcycles and shit. She had a lot of knowledge of bikes, and it was another thing about her that turned me on.

We stayed out for a couple of hours, talking and getting to know each other better. It wasn’t too serious, just simple shit like favorite colors and that boring shit most people tend to forgetabout. It didn’t bother me because I just enjoyed seeing the smile on her face, which surprised me.

By the time we left, we both were good and hungry, so we headed back to the house. Plus, I still had to show her the surprise I had for her.

“Here, call your cousin,” Dion said as he handed me his phone.

We had just gotten back to the house, and even though I was hungry, I was eager to see whatever surprise he had for me.

“What am I calling her for?” I wanted to talk to her, but I wasn’t sure why he suddenly wanted me to call her. Was he finally letting me go? There was a part of me that didn’t want to leave. I felt like we finally made a breakthrough, and I liked the time we spent together at the mountain. It felt good to get out of the house and ride on a bike again. I missed my bike and had wondered what he did with it all this time.

“Considering I pretty much hung up on her, I know she is probably worried about you. Call her back to let her know you are okay.” He walked over to the couch and sat down.

I glanced at the phone in my hand, then back at him. When he nodded, I pressed a button, and the screen came to life. I found it odd that he didn’t have a lock on it.

I dialed Cayenne’s number, and she answered on the third ring.

“Hello.” I could hear the hesitation in her voice.

“Cayenne, it’s Pepper.”

“Are you okay?” she asked.

I walked further into the living room and sat at the other end of where Dion sat. I looked around the living room and admired its cleanliness. There was a long black couch opposite the black couch we sat on. A huge glass table was between the couches. There were big lamps in each corner of the room. It was obvious it was a bachelor pad, but it was nice. It gave off homey vibes. I was impressed.

“Pepper.” I had forgotten I was on the phone until Cayenne called my name.

“Huh? Oh, my bad. Yes, I’m okay. I’m better than okay. I found someone, and we have just been spending time in our own little bubble.” Dion’s head tilted to the side when I looked at him.

Cayenne sucked her teeth. “I’m not sure if I fully believe you, but if you say you are fine, then I’ll drop it for now. But your father is pissed and talking about lost lives if you don’t come home soon.”

It was my turn to suck my teeth. “My father isn’t worried about me, Cayenne. There are things about my father that I can’t get into right now. I just wanted you to know that I am okay, and I will talk to you as soon as I can.”
