Miracle Matches

Client: Alexander Wen

When matchmaker Martina Mendez finished the end of the video sent by Alexander Wen, she sat quiet and still for a moment. Each client was different and each one had their own quirks and issues to finding love.

A soft knock at the doorframe turned her head. "What did you think when you watched Alexander’s video?"

The awkward twist of Myra’s smile was all Martina needed to know. "What do you think about a match?"

Myra Valencia, Martina’s Master Consultant, crossed into the room and took a seat in one of the empty chairs. "Well, he’s certainly got an idea of what he wants."

The two women shared a knowing smile before Martina looked down at her notes. "His last relationship… she was Miss Compliant. Whatever. Whenever. No opinions what-so-ever."

Myra’s laughter was telling. "Why do women think that’s attractive?"

"It might not be that. You know, as well as I do, that sometimes men wear the decision making right out of women."Martina shook her head. "I have several clients who’ve known Alexander for years and he’s not that kind of man, but he is the kind who needs a little direction. His last relationship was a woman who wanted to please him so badly that she lost any sense of self."

Myra scoffed at the idea. They had both seen it before. "A good match-"

"The best match," Martina corrected with a smile.

"Is a partnership. A give and take."

Nodding, Martina sighed. "When Alexander says he wants a woman who doesn’t hesitate to make decisions and will tell him exactly what she wants, I can see where he’s coming from. But I feel like he’s going to the other side of the spectrum."

"He’s not a man who would let go of that much control in a relationship, no matter what he thinks."

"It’s a bad reaction to his last relationship." Martina looked back at the screen and the frozen image of Alexander Wen. His eyes were dark, but it wasn’t the color she was talking about, but the intent. He had dug his heels in on his deal-breakers. And like many other billionaires, he felt as though he was his own best council. "He’s stubborn enough to see it through, but you know what I think?"

Myra tilted her head slightly to the side. "I have a feeling I do."

Martina’s eyes widened just the littlest bit. "Okay then, what do you think?"

"Give him what he wants. Exactly. The woman who will lay out her wants and needs and be unapologetic about it."

"Yes! And I have just the woman for that. Blair Swinton. She’s the most self-sufficient woman I have ever met and yet she came to me to find a match."

Myra had to think for a moment. "She’s almost a billionaire herself, isn’t she?"

"Almost. Give her a few months and her next business venture will be open and I bet she’ll be well over the line on her own."

"Sounds like she’d be a good match for him since they’re on the same level."

Martina nodded softly. "Sure, but while I could see them being friends, her nature might grate on his a bit, but I feel confident that she’s the answer for all of Alexander’s requirements."

"But if you don’t think they’ll be a good match, why-"

"Oh, they would be good for his wants, but I believe that his needs are a little different."

Myra sat forward on the chair. "And what do you think he needs?"

Reaching for her tablet, Martina logged on and found the folder of staff recommendations. "Not what…" Finding the file she had in mind, she turned it so Myra could see it. "Who."

Taking the tablet from Martina’s hands, Myra saw the photo at the top of the contractor information sheet. "You know, I can see that. She’s going to surprise him."

Martina gave her friend a coquettish look. "Exactly what I was thinking. Either woman would keep him on his toes, but I think you know where my heart is."
