His eyebrows shot up as the corner of his mouth hitched into his cheek.
“I’m not playing, Dominic,” I quickly warned him. I needed to make sure that he was coming out of there alive and well. By the grace of God, I still had the Amulet, and I knew that no matter what happened to me, they couldn’t kill me. But Dominic was an entirely different story. They would use him against me and would not hesitate to end him just to spite me. “Drink. Right now.”
“Have I ever told you how unbelievably sexy you are when you’re giving me orders?”
“You can tell me all about it when we get back to the hotel in one piece,” I said and eyed my wrist expectantly, signaling for him to do as he was told.
Wetting his lips, he picked up my hand and slowly brought it up to his mouth. My heart pummeled itself against my rib cage as he kissed the top of my hand and then turned it around, never once breaking eye contact from me. His lips brushed against the palm of my hand, soft as a feather, before moving further down to my wrist.
I braced myself, knowing what was coming.
Wantingwhat was coming.
His fangs dropped with an audibleclickand then swiftly burrowed into my skin. It only took a split second before I felt the familiar droplets of heaven trickling into my blood stream like medicine from an IV drip. Overcome by the rush, I pushed back against my seat, my heels digging into the floor of his car as he openly and freely drank from me.
Every small effort to stop it from affecting me, from completely consuming me, was futile. The pleasure coursing through me was impossible to ignore. It impressed itself upon every cell in my body and then settled over me like a warm blanket made of magic and all the stars in the sky. I never had any chance of fighting it, and every part of my body knew it, from the tips of my curled toes to the small moan that escaped my lips.
At the sound, Dominic pulled back and sucked in a sharp breath. I looked up at him and blinked, my vision still blurry and out of focus. It was better like this; easier to hide from the truth of what I had done. But alas, his features slowly sharpened before completely coming back in focus and revealing the dark angel I was constantly hiding from.
With my chest rising and falling at dangerous speeds, I watched as he licked his lips clean and gazed at me longingly. There was so much need in his eyes, so much lust that it made it hard for me to think clearly.
Every time he drank from me, the cord between us shortened, and I knew that it was only a matter of time before there was no more give left in the line.
Breaking eye contact first, I pushed my head back against the headrest and tried to re-center myself.
“It’s your turn, angel,” he said, drawing my attention back to him. His eyes were heavy pools of emotion—desire, longing, excitement. They were all dancing freely in the depths of his dangerous eyes.
I tore my gaze away and instead watched as he made two small puncture holes in his wrist.
Wrapping my fingers around his forearm, I quickly brought his wrist to my mouth and drank, knowing that I needed a little help from his blood to anchor myself back to this world. And surely enough, as soon as his blood settled in my system, I could feel my feet slowly touching ground again.
Every exchange between us was like a rollercoaster ride of mind-numbing highs and heart-pounding lows, and as much as I feared the loss of control, I couldn’t figure out how to get off the ride.
“Alright, angel. That’s enough,” he said softly as he pulled his wrist back.
I didn’t know how he did it, but he always managed to stay in complete control of our exchanges. If it were up to me, we’d probably be in two body bags by now, side by side and completely drained of all our blood.
Apparently, my level of self-control was in the negative.
“How are you feeling?” he asked tentatively, his eyes surveying my features.
“Better,” I said and released an easy breath. “You?”
His lips twisted into a grin. “Never better, angel.”
“Good,” I said and pulled my seatbelt back around me. “How much time do we have left?”
He glanced at his watch. “Eleven minutes.”
That was more than enough to get to Trace’s house and set ourselves up. If all went well, we’d have plenty of time to spare before the text came in.
And God knows we needed it.
30. RING OF DEATH
The rain continued to beat down violently as Dominic and I made our way around the side of Trace’s house on foot. The lights were on at the front, signalingsomeonewas home, but we had no idea who, or how many people were actually in there. Something we should have probably confirmed before coming here.
As long as Nikki’s spell went off without a hitch, I was confident we could overpower at least one of the sisters, and I had my sights set on the one I wanted, but that plan could easily go to hell if there were more people in the house than expected; particularly Lucifer or one of his demon minions.
