“Apparently.”
“But youdohave a plan, right?”
"Well, the way I see it, if the Roderick sisters found a way to get Lucifer into Trace's body, then there has to be a way to get him out. And who better to tell us than one of the sisters?"
"And you think they're going to willingly do that for you? They're not one of your little boy-toys, Jemma."
"I'm aware of that, Nikki," I spat back in the same biting tone. "And no, I don’t think they’re going to tell me anythingwillingly. But they will tell me what I want to know."
She arched her perfectly manicured brow at me. "And how are you planning on pulling that off?”
“By whatever means necessary.”
A flicker of amusement flashed through her eyes. “So, you’re going to like, what? Waterboard them?”
“If I have to.” I shrugged, even though I had no idea what the heck that even was.
Whatever. I couldGoogleit.
“And you actually think you're going to get within ten meters of them without their magic blowing you into next Tuesday?”
“No, but that's where you come in.”
"Ohhh, I get it. You want them to blowmeinto next Tuesday?" She stood up abruptly. "I'm not interested in going on one of your little suicide missions.”
"It’s not a suicide mission. Sit down and relax,” I said, rolling my eyes at her. “You're not going to be anywhere near them for any of this…I will."
"You?" Her eyebrows shot up with disbelief. "And which army?"
I refused to let that sting. "Look, I'll worry about me and my army. I just need you and Caleb to disable their magic long enough so that I can get close to them. Together they’re unstoppable, but if I can separate one from the pack, they'll be just as vulnerable as the rest of us." And I planned on taking full advantage of that. “You think you can handle that?”
"So, basically, you want me and Caleb to disable their magic so you can snatch one of them up and then beat the information out of her?”
"Yeah. More or less." I really didn't like her patronizing tone. "Unless you have a better idea," I challenged.
Her failure to offer up an alternative solution let me know she didn't have one.
“And what if it doesn't work?” she asked, her tone markedly softer now.
“It will,” I said and swallowed thickly.
It had to, because as it stood, I really didn’t have a plan B.
22. A SHOT IN THE DARK
Dominic and I spent the next hour ironing out the details of our plan with Nikki. Everything was set and ready to go except one very important factor: We had no actual idea where the sisters were holed up.
“Can you do a locator spell?” I asked, remembering the Roderick sisters doing one for Trace, though in hindsight, the whole thing was probably just a farce. They knew exactly where Trace and my mother were the entire time, being that they were the ones who brought them to Angel’s Peak.
Nikki shook her head. “I’d need their blood or hair to do the spell.”
“Damn it.” We sure as shit didn’t have either of those. “How the hell are we going to find them?” I bounced a look between the two of them, hoping one of them had another idea. “They could be anywhere!”
Literally anywhere on this planet and beyond.
“We start with the most obvious places and narrow it down from there,” offered Dominic.
“That could take weeks, maybe even months. We don’t have time for trial and error.”
