I nod sleepily and Colt shifts me tighter against his chest. Completely at ease in my star-studded nest, I drift off to sleep, held tight by my alpha and his knot.
Chapter thirty-four
Kye
Of all the fricking days why was this one, when Rose is coming home, the only day the lawyers could see me? The only reason I accepted was because I thought it might be overwhelming for Rose if the house was full, but now I’m regretting my choice. I grind my hands into the steering wheel and check my mirrors before changing freeway lanes on my way home.
Well, they are Darinian’s most in-demand lawyers, so it’s a fact they’re busy. Pretty sure the only reason they saw me this quickly was because of my surname. Amazing how this particular arrangement of seven letters can open doors.
Got an appointment? Yes. Got good news? No.
There are precedents for guarantors taking over a mortgage after proving the mortgagee can’t be responsible for the loan. Jefferies, the lawyer, said my father would be hard placed to prove I’m not fit for finance since I’ve never defaulted, but the safest solution would be to pay off the mortgage and negate his role as guarantor.
Because yeah, I have a cool million dollars floating around. Wish I’d thought ahead to start pulling my money from the trust fund’s monthly allocation and stash it in a different bank account in my own name.
The other option is to sell the apartment fast before dad can get involved. But I love that penthouse. I picked it out as a potential home with mom, years before it even came up for sale.
A douche in a Toyota cuts into the lane looking for the exit ramp and I slam on my brakes and lean on the horn.
With a good manager, I could make the money on a country-wide tour, but that will take too long, not to mention I now have an omega I don’t want to be away from. Even the idea of skipping off for a weekend in two weeks’ time for my concert is bothering me.
And why the hell are there so many asshole drivers on the road? I fume as an elderly driver sits twenty clicks below the limit on the offramp as I swing towards the suburbs.
Catching a gap in the traffic, I zoom around the slow poke and zip down the carriageway, tapping my thumbs restlessly against the wheel. The muscle in my shoulder pings with pain.
“Frick!” On top of it all, I’m getting my ass handed to me in the self-defense and restraining section of the rehabilitation certification. I’m holding up Rose’spetsfrom joining us, and if I’m being honest with myself, it’s because I’m scared shitless.
That maximum security murder alpha with the blond hair and eyes that devoured your soul with a single glance is supposed to live in my house and eat my food alongside my omega?
And let’s not forget I’m living with a fricking murderer to begin with. I shudder.
Blue lights flash in my rearview and I swear again as my gaze drops to the needle. I pull off the road into a row of business car parks, and the traffic officer gets out of his car, noting down my number plate.
I slap my hands against the wheel before rolling down my window. A fine’s the last thing I need.
“Hello officer,” I say, knowing flexing my stroppy mood won’t get me anywhere.
He looks me over. “Do you know why I pulled you over?”
I sigh. “Think my foot might have been a bit heavy on the gas.”
“You were doing twelve over the limit.”
I wince. Ten and under might get me waved, but over ten they usually take a hard line on, especially in the outer suburbs like this. “I’m sorry, officer.”
He looks in the windows. “Everything okay?”
“Yes. It was my fault. My omega’s coming home today, and I wasn’t paying attention.”
“Coming home?”
“Yes, first day.”
He chuckles. “Ha! Congratulations, I remember the feeling. Wait until she goes into heat or delivers your baby.” The officer shakes his head with a wistful smile, having no idea his side comment just gave me a boner.
Rose, with my babies in her? Frick! My stomach pulses with heat.
“I tell you what, I’ll write you up with a warning and let you go.”
