Page 216 of Rogue Alpha Prince

This is when I almost become the first-ever werewolf to die from a heart attack.

Cain looks at me with a poker face while leaning with his back and one foot against the wall behind him. His arms are crossed and he drags his tongue over his teeth when he sees me.

I gulp.

“You scared me,” I say the white lie because technically speaking… I did get scared seeing him and he does look objectively creepy. “I was looking for you.”

He’s not impressed, so I feel like I need to add to the lie, “I was wondering if you want to go to the doctor with me. You know I completely stopped bleeding two weeks ago… I thought I should maybe go for a check-up to see if there is any progress with my scarring tissue, you know… maybe I’m ready to try to fix some of it.”

Again, technically, it’s all true, I should go for a check-up. I don’t want to, but I should.

He smacks his lips and there is a long pause between us. I don’t dare to put more gasoline on this fire, so I wait, refusing to avert my eyes in fear I’m really feeling.

“I would go with you… if it wasn’t complete bullshit. I have cameras in there since your last sneaking into my office, I know you are lying.”

“Shit,” I exhale my breath loudly, “Couldn’t you at least pretend?”

I grumpily startwalking in the direction of the stairway, so I could go back to our room like the nice little wolf I should be.

“I pretend enough already,” he murmurs, and I turn my head back to him with a lifted eyebrow. “You still have to go for that check-up, though. That’s an order.”

“Fuck,” I mumble and turn around to go to the hospital wing instead.

“We both know you are very agreeable if you want to be,” he means sex and at this moment I hate him for it.

He slaps my ass when I pass him. “Behave.”

“Yes, Alpha,” I roll my eyes and soon push the doors of the infirmary wide open.

“Oh, Luna!” One of the male nurses greets me, who I know took care of me while I was unconscious over a month ago. “I keep forgetting to pass it through the doctor and you’ve never come down here…”

I watch him rummage through a cupboard until he says “Ha!” and turns to me with something in his outstretched palm. “I found it on the floor after Alpha took you to his quarters. That’s yours, right?”

“Oh my Goddess, I thought I lost it in the battle!” I take my grandmother's pendant and put it on immediately despite all the dried-up blood dulling its color. “Thank you!”

“You’re welcome, Luna. Are you here for the check-up?”

I just nod, forgetting about proper pleasantries, too happy about finding something I thought I’d never see again.

The nurse gives me a gown and moves the screen around one of the beds before asking me to undress and wait for the doctor.

I barely managed to pull my gown on, when the doctor strides with a polite bow.

I send him a smile and lay on the bed. He puts the cover on my legs before pushing the gown up so he can squirt the cold gel all over my stomach. Hesits on the stool the nurse pushes to him and pulls the new sonogram machine closer to us.

Cain let him order it a few weeks ago when the doctor kept grumbling that he would like to see my injuries with better quality.

At least I was useful for one thing, approving new hospital equipment.

It came so quickly, though… Did they steal it?

“We’ll start with the scars on your intestines,” he says, already staring at the monitor.

I close my eyes and patiently wait. I feel a prick on my temples, and sure enough, Cain’s annoyingly sexy voice sounds inside my head.

‘What are the other girls' names?’he doesn’t beat around the bush.

I don’t say anything because the doctor asks when I stopped bleeding internally and vaginally.
