Shawn gave me a kiss and grabbed my backpack. “Ready to go?”

I grabbed his hand, and we headed out.

The steakhouse was great. It had delicious food, a wonderful ambiance, and we were seated with enough privacy that we could just talk and be ourselves, without worrying about being too loud and interrupting the next table—or being distracted by something the people closest to us were saying. We ended up not getting dessert, though, because Nook had just added a new lineof sweet treats to their menu that we wanted to try, including some designed just for Littles.

After dinner, we went right over to the club and used one of the changing rooms so Daddy could help me get ready. I loved having him dress me, and soon enough, it was time to play.

Hand in hand, we walked to the Little room. We’d talked on the ride about what I wanted to do. We didn’t have as much time tonight, not with having a nice leisurely dinner first, and I’d seen in the newest email that they just added new car ramps. Cars weren’t my favorite of Little activities, but watching them go fast down a ramp? Yeah, that I was all about.

When we walked into the Little room, it was clear I wasn’t the only one excited about the new toy. It was quite popular, more than a handful of Littles all playing with it at once, their Daddies standing back a bit and chatting together as their little ones played.

Liam was among them, and he saw me, his face lighting up with a smile, and waved.

“Do you want to play with your friends today?” Shawn asked.

I looked up at him. I hadn’t thought about that. I just assumed it would be the two of us playing together. Wasn’t that what tonight was about? I could practically hear Daddy telling me that tonight, for him, was about giving me what I needed, and for now, that was playing with my friends. I didn’t even pretend to argue with him

“Is that okay?” I asked, double-checking that I’d understood correctly. I wouldn’t want to make him mad because I was a bad listener.

He ruffled my hair. “Absolutely.”

I sprinted over to the racetrack and grabbed one of the cars, excited to put it down on the top of the big ramp and see how fast it could go. I played for a long time with Liam and the cars, Daddy just standing there watching, giving me nods and smiles as I did. But eventually, as fun as my friends were, I needed Daddy.

I walked over to him and asked for a story. “Story time?”

“I didn’t bring your book from the changing room, sweet boy.”

“That’s okay,” I said. “We’ll get a book here.”

And we did. We found one about race cars and went over to one of the big rocking chairs, and he sat down with me in his lap. As he read me the story, I snuggled in close, and the next thing I knew, he was waking me up.

“I fell asleep?”

“You did, my sweet boy.”

“I’m sorry. I’m awake now.” It was too soon for our night out to be over just because I fell asleep.

“Yes, you are,” he said with a smile, “but we can go home.”

“But we just got here to play.” Maybe. I wasn’t sure what time it was.

“True, but that doesn’t mean we need to keep playing all night. Let’s get you home and into bed.”

“Milkies?”

He kissed my forehead. “Yes. Milkies.”

Chapter 16

Shawn

“Remind me never to move homes again.” Kasper slumped onto the floor, sweat rings under his arms and surrounded by boxes.

His plan never to move again worked for me. I was thrilled that we were finally officially going to be living together. Being away from my boy wasn’t fun.

“Don’t move homes again.”

“You’re hilarious,” he deadpanned.
