Seeing that Bash and I haven’t had time to discuss what we want for the wedding, I would normally be a little annoyed with Hattie. Yet, for some strange reason, I’m not. She’s this insanely likable person.

I settle on a noncommittal response. “It can’t hurt to go over ideas.”

She smiles. “Ugh, you’re right. The two of you probably want to discuss things first. Sorry, I’m just so excited. I promise, I’m not going to be a psycho sister-in-law that is always up in your business.”

“It’s really not a problem. Don’t apologize, you’re fine.” Bash squeezes my hand at my response. I know how important his sister is to him. Luckily, I genuinely like her, so I don’t have to pretend.

Hattie gives Bash a side hug. “I’m just so happy for my twin. You are all he’s talked about since your birthday.”

“He is persistent.” I give Bash a teasing look.

We get into Bash’s car and head to the restaurant. The fact that none of this freaks me out tells me how right it all is.

CHAPTER

THIRTY

ARI

My mom comes into the guest bedroom, which has been designated as the bridal staging area, wearing Nolan in a baby sling across her chest.

She covers her mouth with her hands as tears spring to her eyes. “Oh my gosh.”

“Oh, Ma.” I step toward her and wrap her in a hug. “You can’t start that already.”

“You are just so beautiful. I can’t believe my little girl is getting married.” She sniffs.

I rub her arm. “You look good. Getting enough sleep?”

“Plenty. Beckett has been amazing.”

“So you must still be taking turns at night?”

She smiles. “Yeah, I pump once during the dayso he has a bottle to use when he gets up with the baby at night. It’s been working out great. It’s kinda nice that the baby’s early months came during the offseason. Beckett insists his only job is to make me and baby boy happy.”

“I knew he’d be a great dad.”

“The best.” She looks around the room. “I thought you’d still be getting ready. There’s still a while until the ceremony starts.”

“I wanted to make sure I was ready with plenty of time to spare, so I might have started a little too early.” I shrug.

“Where are the girls?”

My brows knit together. “Getting coffee… or maybe wine.” I grin. “Hattie told me, but I was only half listening. They’re ready too, though.”

She eyes me from head to toe and shakes her head. “Gosh, I’m so proud of you, honey. I’m just so happy for you.”

“Thank you, Ma.”

“You’re going to have an amazing life. I can feel it.”

I nod. “I can, too. Have you seen Bash?”

“I ran into him in the kitchen. Nothing but smiles. He’s such a ray of sunshine.”

That’s a perfect way to describe my soon-to-be husband. A mother freaking ray of sunshine. How did I get so lucky as to have him fall so irrevocably in lovewith me? I’m not sure what I did to deserve him, but I’m so grateful he’s mine. We’ve only been apart for a few hours for the pre-wedding preparations, and I already miss him so much.

Mom continues, “The house looks great. Perfect venue.”
