She cuts me off, “We agreed, no w-word.”

I laugh. “Well, that’s all well and good, except I must go back tomorrow. I’ve already taken two days off. I’m the lieutenant. Any more than what I’ve already taken just to stay home in bed to be inside you, is putting my integrity in question.”

She shakes her head, and trails kisses across my chest. “I beg to differ. I absolutely think calling off tomorrow is the right decision. And, for the record, I think your choice to stay home and be inside of me is a courageous one.”

“So there’s nothing you want to do while you’re here?” I ask again.

“Oh, we could go bowling and then go out for some deep-dish pizza. You all are supposed to have the best, right?” She claps her hands together.

“The pizza, yes. But bowling? The entirety of Chicago is at your disposal, and you want to go bowling?” I question.

“Well, me, Cam, and our friend Jules used to go all the time in high school. I haven’t been in so long. I was just thinking about it the other day.”

“Okay. Do you want to invite Cam to come along?”

“No.” She shakes her head. “She’s working.”

I hold up my finger. “Ah-ah, you said the w-word.” I flip her over so she’s beneath me and capture her mouth in mine, kissing her fiercely.

CHAPTER7

LEXI

“Ithought you said you used to go bowling a lot?” he questions as my bowling ball rolls into the gutter, yet again.

I pucker my lips. “I said we went a lot. I didn’t say I was any good.”

“Clearly,” he teases, standing for his turn and grabbing his ball.

I plop down on the bright orange plastic chair as he bowls, hitting all but two pins.

It’s been a good five years since I’ve bowled but I thought some of my skill would come back. Unless, I never had any to begin with? I honestly can’t remember. To be fair, I was always high when we bowled. Maybe that’s why it was so fun.

Boss knocks over the two lone pins standing for a spare. I’m so annoyed I don’t even bother clapping for him anymore.

“You know, this was good…us getting out. It allows me to see the bigger picture. Let’s see, things I know about Lexi,” he starts ticking off items on his fingers. “Stellar in bed, hot as hell, great at conversation, bad at bowling, sore loser.”

“Hey.” I smack his arm. “I’m not a sore loser.”

He laughs. “Your constant pouting says otherwise.”

“I do not pout.”

“You one hundred percent pout.”

“Well, it’s not as fun as I remember.” I shrug.

He places his hand on my thigh. “Are you ready to go get pizza now?”

“Yeah.” I nod.

He stands and extends his hand out. I take it and he pulls me up, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me into him. “How about we go get some of our famous pizza, and then head over to the Navy Pier for a Ferris wheel ride. That will be romantic. You can see the city skyline and Lake Michigan. Then we’ll head back to my place where we won’t leave the bed until I leave for work tomorrow.” He kisses my forehead.

“I like that plan.” I splay my palms against his chest.

“Good.” He takes my hand and kisses the top of it. He threads his fingers through mine and leads me out of the bowling alley.
