“If that was the case, I could just pick anyone and not bother with a second or third time. But if this is to happen several times, I would want to know what kind of woman I’m dealing with. I think I have a rough idea of who you are. But that doesn’t tell me why you are so against relationships, for example, or why I would be certain you will never have deeper feelings for me.”
So this is more to double-check…
“You want to know why I can’t fall in love anymore?”
“Well…” he seems hesitant.
“It’s very common,” I shrug. “Heartbreak, and scars that will never heal.”
“Well, I guess everyone has–”
“No, I’m talking about actual scars.”
I’d rather be honest from the get-go if he wants to know this much, and hopefully, he won’t pry too much into my personal matters. I need to set limits right away.
“I really don’t want to get into the details, if you don’t mind.”
“I understand.”
… Does he really? That seemed too easy. I do need to make sure he stays out of my personal business, though.
“I just had a really, really bad experience,” I say. “It was someone who I trusted and he trampled all over my feelings, so I’m resolute not to make the same mistake twice.”
“You intend to remain single?”
“Yes,” I nod. “I don’t want any children for now either, I’m already busy as it is.”
“And what is it that you do then?”
He’s more curious than I thought… I take a couple seconds to think about what he is curious about. Oh, well. It can’t hurt to let him know a little bit more about me, just the basic stuff, especially if we’re going to keep seeing each other.
“I’m a senior, for now, at the Business Management school. I also work as a trainer for my pack and I do odd jobs from time to time… Alright, enough about me, Mr. Black. You are some sort of CEO, right?”
He smiles, as if this was nothing.
“Correct, Miss Whitewood. I represent my brother’s company on several levels, but he lets me handle the parts I love most, so I don’t complain.”
“The restaurant industry, was it?”
“Correct again. I have a thing for cooking, so my favorite aspects of my business are my restaurants. The entire service industry, to be honest. Restaurants, hotels, casinos, resorts, anything related to leisure and entertainment.”
“Sounds like a lot for one person,” I admit.
He definitely sounds like a hard worker, not a guy who just has a job in name only.
“I’m not alone. I’m just busy enough to have the right balance between office paperwork and fieldwork.”
“I would go crazy, locked in an office all day,” I groan.
“Didn’t you say you were in Business Management?”
We probably have very different ideas about what work should be…
“I don’t have plans to work for a company. I want to do my own thing: make enough money to open my own shop, and live a modest life.”
I don’t see myself as some busy CEO… and I’m fine with that. Will he look down on me for that? Well, I’ll see what kind of guy he is. I take a sip of my cocktail to try and stay composed.
“What kind of shop?”
