He squats down beside her. “No. You were crying. You looked miserable until I came over here and got you fired up.” A grin slides over his face. “You’re welcome.”
“ARRRGGH!”She puts her head in her hands. “I just can’t anymore.”
Ford comes over, lifting me from the chair and setting me on his lap.
I bury my face against his chest, my shoulders shaking from laughter.
“I told you she didn’t stand a chance against Connor,” he whispers.
I’m laughing so hard at the situation I forget about the shadow by the tree.
Well, almost.
When I get control of myself, I lift my face, wiping the tears of laughter from my face.
“You called it.”
My gaze darts to that tree, but the shadowed figure I swore I saw earlier isn’t there.
I should probably tell Ford?—
The horrific sounds of someone attempting to sing draw my attention.
It’s so terrible, I think someone is choking.
Then I realize Connor is singing to poor Allie.
Even worse?
He’s singing “Blame It” by Jamie Foxx.
I collapse against Ford, both of us laughing our asses off.

FORD
Igive a pointed look to the guys, who immediately take the hint and wander inside the B&B under the guise of getting the drinks ready.
Allie wants to stay outside, but Connor hitches her over his shoulder, carrying her inside as she kicks and swears at him.
Harper watches with wide eyes, shaking her head.
“We always get what we want, hummingbird.” My fingers grasp her chin, turning her face to mine. “I was prepared to do anything to get you.”
Linking my fingers with hers, I pull her to her feet. “Let’s take a walk.” I adjust the blanket around her shoulders, ensuring she’s warm against the cool breeze.
“It’s a beautiful night. I want a moment alone with my soon-to-be bride.” I grin at her, holding her hand as I guide her where I want her.
She inhales deeply, tipping her face upward. “The stars are gorgeous.”
“Yes, they are.” My gaze never leaves her.
She lowers her chin, smiling. “You’re not even looking at the stars.”
I bring our joined hands to my lips, kissing her knuckles. “That’s because I’m looking at something far more beautiful and impressive.” I flash her a wide smile.“You.”
Her breath hitches, and her eyes shine with unshed tears, brighter than the stars above. “At your core, you’re such a romantic.”
