“Is it done?”
“She’s right here, Ricky.”
“Good.” He paused. “Hey, Alexa Grace.”
I was so fucking gullible. How did I miss that the only link connecting all of this was the FBI agent I trusted? He knew everything and everyone. Every piece of the puzzle had been carefully moved into position by Rickman.
“Not feeling chatty? That’s too bad. Daddy here wanted to hear your voice.”
Shit! “Dad?”
“Grace!” he hollered, and it sounded like he was trying to fight someone in the background. “I’ll find you, babygirl!”
“Don’t hurt him,’ I pleaded.
“That depends on your cooperation.”
“I understand.”
“You’re going to take a little drive. Once you reach your destination, you’ll follow Tony inside. There’s someone I want you to meet.”
“Who?”
“That’s the surprise.”
“Grace! Get out of there!” My father’s words were followed by a fist connecting with flesh and a grunt.
“Rickman, I won’t cooperate if he’s harmed. Release him. You already have me.”
“Ah, I taught you well. Negotiating already? Smart girl. But we’re beyond that, you and me. Far too many late nights picking one another’s brain.”
That sounded disgusting.
“Let him go. He’s useless to you.”
“Ah, but he’s not. You see, that special visitor wants to meet him too.”
“So we both go,” I answered, deflated.
“Yes. On your best behavior now. If you resist, Tony is allowed to persuade you however he wants.”
Tony licked his teeth and winked.
The sick fuck. I’d claw his eyes out before I let him touch me.
“I’ll cooperate.”
“Yes, I know you will, Alexa Grace.”
The call ended. I scooted as far back as I could, drawing up my knees and resting my arms over them. I’d reserve my energy and stay focused, holding onto the hope that no one would harm me or my father before we met the mysterious visitor.
The drive took nearly an hour. I didn’t know where we ended up, but it wasn’t Vegas. I could tell we turned and entered the desert at least fifteen minutes ago. That worried me. There were places in the Great Basin where you could hide bodies or even buildings, and no one would find anything for years.
When we didn’t stop and kept driving, I had no idea how far out I was being taken. How would Hunter find me? There was no trail to follow.
I would just disappear.
The van finally stopped, and I hopped out, purposely being quick so I didn’t have to endure Tony’s touch. He laughed as I stepped away from him, ticking his chin at the doctor.
