It’s possible. Maybe she thought I’d react first before asking questions, killing the Angels and eliminating one of the Kerrs’ problems.

The Angels, who are chatting, fall silent as they see me, dressed in all black, with Thana strapped to my lower back. They know this look. This is Hush’s kill outfit, and they realise then that they aren’t meeting with Dee, they are meeting with Hush.

“Hush. We were surprised to be summoned without any explanation. If it were anyone else, we wouldn’t have dropped everything by such a demand,” Amanda states, her eyes trailing me as I come to stand at the opposite end of the table as Griffin.

“Why is that?” I ask, and both the Angel sisters’ brows shoot high.

“You’re talking?” Bec asks, her gaze darting between me, Jared—who is now to my right—and up to the other end of the table, to Griffin and his woman, Aggie. “I didn’t know you were talking to people now.”

I shrug. “Answer my question. Why would you drop everything for me?”

Both Angels frown, briefly glancing at each other before shaking their heads like they are confused.

Sighing, I clear my throat, my raspy voice not used to being used this much, and I stop beating around the bush.

“Sit.” I demand, and even though everyone but Jared frowns at me, they all sit while I remain standing. “I had a run in with Bianca Kerr earlier today.”

“What!” The Angels shoot out of their seats in shock, but all Griffin does is raise a brow.

He’s interested in what I have to say, but the Angels are panicked.

Interesting.

I gesture for them to sit again, staying silent until they take the hint and lower back to their seats.

“Are you ok? What did she do?” Amanda asks, and it’s Jared who answers.

“She tried to fucking choke her!”

Again, the Angels fly out of their seats, and I huff, my shoulders dropping as I tip my head back to stare at the ceiling while the Angels start hurling questions at me.

I need to have a chat with Jared about keeping his mouth shut.

“Enough!” The deep boom is loud, and the table rattles from the force of Griffin’s fist, and my eyes lock on Aggie, who starts whispering in his ear.

He gives her a nod while Bec and Amanda calm down, getting comfortable in their seats again as Griffin stands.

“Why don’t we all remain quiet and let Hush finish speaking?”

The Angels turn their gazes back to me and I give Griffin a nod of thanks before continuing.

“Bianca seemed to know a lot about me. My past. And the two of you.” I deadpan and their eyes widen.

“Maybe we should talk about this in private,” Amanda suggests, but I shake my head.

“Nope. I’d prefer to discuss this right here with everyone in the room, and since I’m not sure if I can trust the two of you right now,” I shoot the Angels a glare, “I’ve asked Griffin and Aggie to be here because, funnily enough, they are the only people aside from Jared and my current foster family that I trust.”

Is it wise to trust one of the Marx men? Maybe not all Marx men. But this one, yes. I do trust Griffin, and I need him on my side if I’m going to make it to my eighteenth birthday alive.

“Look, Hush. I’m not sure what Bianca told you, but I’m sure she was just trying to put a wedge between us. Doing that would make us both weaker,” Bec states and I nod.

“That’s true, it would, which is why you aren’t already dead.”

The room turns eerily still at my words. The expressions on Bec’s and Amanda’s faces are lethal, yet they remain in their seats.

“Explain to me whyyouwere the ones that hid me in a psychiatric facility after I killed my step-mum? Explain to me whyyouthen had me moved from that facility and into what I thought was foster care, but was actually witness protection?”

The Angels’ faces lose their murderous glare and morph into worry.
