Dee nods.
“Care to fill us in?” the other blonde, Bec, asks.
Dee turns her eyes to her phone, preparing her response before holding it up for the Angel sisters to read.
When they frown, Dee turns her screen to me so I can see too.
‘You tell me.’
Sighing, Amanda speaks. “Griffin tells us you broke into his house and held him at knifepoint.”
My eyes widen and I glance at Dee, who is smirking before she puts her words into text and holds up the phone for the three of us to read.
‘I was ambushed at the farmhouse last week. He and his crew were the only ones that knew I’d be there, so there’s a big chance he has a mole in his ranks. Jared and I could have died. I won’t risk his life, so I made a new deal.’
“Your birthday is next Thursday. You really think you can kill everyone on that list, plus take out the enemies in Griffin’s way from claiming full control of Timber Valley in that short time?” Bec asks, and Dee nods, while my jaw practically hits the pavement.
“You shouldn’t have done that.” Amanda blows out a frustrated breath. “We don’t want you dealing with the Kerr gang.”
Dee shrugs, tapping out a new response and holding it up.‘My brother is mixed up with those people. He’d be safer if they were dead.’
“How about we have a word with Griffin? Get him to take the Kerr gang off the table and you just focus on the Carnal Unicorn list. That’s still thirteen more kills in just over a week. That’s still a lot to ask.” Bec offers and Dee shrugs, casting her eyes back down to her phone.
‘After tonight, it will only be ten on the Carnal list.’
“What?” I snap. “You’re going out tonight?”
Dee nods.
“Who’s driving you?” I ask, stepping closer to her, hating that the Angel sisters are watching us.
Dee smiles and points at me.
Frowning, I shoot a worried glance at the Angels before returning my attention back to my girl and speak through clenched teeth. “I thought you didn’t want me involved.”
Dee leans forward and whispers in my ear. “I don’t, but I don’t want to be away from you either.”
I fucking grin like I’ve won the lottery, forgetting for a split second there that we aren’t alone. I worry about what the Angels will make of Dee whispering to me, but they don’t even look shocked. Just annoyed that they had to have this conversation in the first place.
“Fine.” Amanda throws her arms up. “Finish off the Carnal list, but please reconsider going after the Kerrs. Griffin’s enemies aren’t your problem. We can make sure he still upholds his end just for the Carnal list.”
Dee eyes the Angels curiously, narrowing her eyes at them.
She’s suspicious of their intentions, and she’s not afraid to let them know.
This little pocket rocket has more balls than anyone I’ve ever met.
Even though the Angels seem concerned about her going after the Kerrs, I feel like the Kerrs are the ones that should be concerned. I have a feeling they’ve never come across someone like Hush before, and they’ll be wishing they never had.

DEE
I’m still walking on cloud nine after last night. Once the Angels left, and I dealt with Cynthia and Will, who wanted to talk about me and Jared, and me talking on the phone to Travis, I was able to sneak Jared in through my window where we quietly fooled around for a couple of hours before we snuck out and he drove us to Redfield.
I’d already arranged a new car with Griffin, so it was parked where he said it would be, and we swapped cars, driving to my three marks for the night.
They were all straightforward and boring, but because Jared was there, it was exhilarating to kill while he spied on me. I’d actually demanded that he stay outside to keep watch, but I felt his eyes on me, peering through a window or door, his heated gaze taking everything in as I ended each life.
