“Explain to me why it was the both of you that found me when I ran away from my witness protection family and took me from that man? The only man whonevertried to touch me orhitme orlock me in closets.”

Amanda opens her mouth to say something, but then snaps it shut, clearly thinking better of it, so I continue.

“Tell me why you’ve been keeping me hidden from Bianca Kerr? Why it’s always been the two of you doing this? Looking out for me? I don’t even remember you being around after I killed Catherine, but you must have been if you were the ones to put me in that facility.” I place my hands on the table in front of me and glare at the Angels. “Who are you to me?”

The Angel sisters turn to each other, not saying anything, but their eyes seem to communicate with each other.

“It’s in your best interest to be honest,” Griffin states, his voice broking no argument, and I relax a little. This is why I wanted him here. I needed someone in my corner to make sure I don’t get lied to. To make sure the truth comes out today.

As if in agreement, both Angels nod at each other before slowly turning their gazes to me.

It’s Bec who speaks this time.

“Catherine, Travis’ mum, the lady you killed… was Bianca Kerr’s sister.”

My brows shoot high, and I ease myself into the chair behind me, Jared’s warm palm coming to rest on my thigh under the table, letting me know he’s here. He supports me.

“Because of marriage, Catherine and Bianca have different surnames, but before they married, they were Catherine and Bianca Weaver.” Bec explains, “Because of this, being a close blood relative to Travis, when Catherine died, Bianca was able to do a deal to have Travis put in her care. She tried to claim you, too, but we couldn’t let her take you, and we knew you weren’t safe from her with us since we were still small potatoes in the underworld back then and the only thing going for us was money, so we used that money and arranged for you to vanish. We knew that Bianca’s only desire to get her hands on you was to kill you for what you did to her sister.”

“But why?” I ask quietly, my head spinning from this revelation. “Who am I toyou?”

Amanda clears her throat, sitting taller in her chair before she speaks.

“Your dad, Joey,” she says before snapping her mouth shut, taking a moment to compose herself as her eyes turn glassy. “Your dad was our brother. Our half-brother.”

My brows shoot high.

What did she just say?

“We are your aunties, Elodie.”

JARED

What the actual fuck?! The Angel sisters, who seem to hold some sort of powerful authority over most of the organised crime in Australia, are Dee’s aunties?

No fucking way!

“You’re kidding, right?” I hiss, shooting the two blondes a fucking death glare. “You’re trying to tell me that you are Dee’s aunties?”

They nod and I scoff.

“No way. I don’t fucking believe you.”

Dee shoots me a questioning look, her eyes glazed with unshed tears, and I quickly lean forward and press my lips to her forehead before standing.

“Whether you believe us or not is not our concern, Jared. Our only interest is, Hush.”

I laugh, but there’s no humour in it.

“Yes, Hush. You call her a name that isn’t even her real name.”

“Amanda said her real name a minute ago,” Bec adds and I snarl.

“If you are really her aunties, then why the fuck would you want your niece to be a killer? It makes no fucking sense. No one would want that for a child!”

The sisters exchange another look and nod in understanding.
