“You guys seen Dee?”

Rhys and Simon turn to me as if they are coming out of a trance, and shake their heads.

“Nah, I haven’t seen her in a while. She was talking to Abbey before, though.” Rhys offers and I frown.

Abbey?

Another quick glance around, and I find Abbey sitting to the side of the group, her head buried in a book. I’m not meant to be talking to her, but since Dee isn’t with her, I don’t really give a fuck about the consequences of me interacting with her.

“Hey, Abs,” I call, stumbling over someone’s towel left in a heap on the grass. When I reach Abbey, she glances up from her book. “Do you know where Dee is?”

Abbey frowns at me like I’m disrupting her sleep, giving her head a jerking shake before dismissing me completely and returning her gaze to her book.

The urge to call her a bitch is on the tip of my tongue, but my urgency to find Dee is greater, and with panic, I spin around, trying to find her.

“Dee!” I call, gaining attention from those close by. “Dee!”

“Hey, man. I’m sure she’s here somewhere.” Simon grips my shoulder in an offer of comfort, but I shove his grip off, pushing past him.

“Dee!”

Fuck.

Something is wrong!

Dee wouldn’t just go off on her own without telling someone. Not when she knows she’s not safe.

Fuck!

FUCK!

“Hey calm down, Crowley. She can’t have gone far.” Shaun offers, rushing up to my side.

I push past him too, continuing to call for my girl. I gain so much attention that the teachers try to intervene, but I ignore them, starting to run as I realise Dee isn’t here.

I check the pools, and then the toilets, not even bothering to apologise to the girl that comes out of the toilet stall with a squeak when she sees me in there searching.

It’s no use though. Dee is nowhere to be found.

The moment I step through the gates to the front of the swimming complex, I freeze.

There she is, my girl, being choked by a woman three times my fucking size.

“Hey! Get the fuck off her!” I explode, my fists balling as I charge forward.

The woman’s eyes dart over Dee’s shoulder, and as I hear my mates charge out the gates to my side, the woman releases Dee.

She curls her lip, her eyes falling to Dee’s face in a monstrous glare.

“I said, get the fuck away from her!” I hiss, storming closer, and the lady starts backing up.

That’s when I hear it.

Dee’s voice.

“You better sleep with your eyes open, Bianca, because I’m coming for you.”

Suddenly manic screaming leaps from Rhys as she comes charging past, towards the oversized woman with her face contorted in fury and her fingers raised like claws. She’s hell bent on making this woman back away from her foster sister, regardless of the danger she could be putting herself in. And it works.
