I nod again, but turn my eyes back to my phone as I tap out another response.

‘Travis too. Let him go, even if he doesn’t choose a side. Just let him walk away. With me. Or without me. Just leave him alone.’

Griffin frowns. “That’s a lot.”

I shrug.‘Those are my terms. Take it or leave it.’

“Why do I get the feeling if I leave it, I’m going to need extra muscle protecting my back?”

I smirk and shrug before responding with my phone.‘Sounds like you’re paranoid.’

Griffin chuckles. “Too fucking right. Having you on our side is in my best interest.”

I sneer at him and hold up my phone after tapping out a response aggressively.

‘Then why fucking blackmail me in the first place if having me on your side is in your best interest?’

He shrugs. “Trick of the trade. Maybe you should have called my bluff.”

Snarling this time, I stand abruptly, the chair scraping on the floor as it flies backwards, nearly tipping over, and Griffin stumbles to his feet quickly, readying himself for my attack.

“You want to kill me, Hush?” he asks, and I nod slowly as my top lip curls back to reveal my teeth. Griffin nods and relaxes his stance. “Good. If I renounce on this arrangement, make sure you follow through, and then fucking disappear.”

A gasp sounds behind me, and I turn to see Griffin’s blonde haired beauty standing with two cups of steaming coffee. Her angry eyes locked on her man.

“Take that back, Griffin. You know she will kill you.”

He chuckles. “Yes. I do. Which is why she can trust my word with this new deal. I don’t want her to kill me, so I’ll make sure to honour our agreement. It’s how I’ll make sure no one gets in my fucking head and tries to convince me otherwise. She’s just a kid, like you said, Aggie. She’s already given so much of herself. It’s time for her to be free of this part of our world, and go and live her life.”

I frown at Griffin’s words, a little confused why he’d need to make sure no one can change his mind, but then his blonde piece fills in the blanks.

“Your dad?” she asks, and he shoots her a knowing look. “Has he spoken of using her in the future?”

Oh, hell no. I’m not working for Ewan Marx.

“He mentioned what a good asset she is and can be for the family’s future. I told him she was working with us on a one off, but he didn’t seem deterred by that.”

“Shit,” Aggie whispered, placing the mugs on the table.

I have to agree with her.

Shit.

Sighing, Griffin sits back in his seat, gesturing for me to take a seat as well, before he lifts his cup of coffee to his lips and takes a sip.

I ease back into the seat and look down at the apple still sitting on the table with Thana protruding from it. I should eat, but my appetite has vanished.

I need all this crap to end. I need to save Travis and Jared from this fucked up shit, and I need them to be free.

“You ok, kid?” Griffin’s words startle me, and I realise I retreated into my head there for a moment. “You didn’t get hurt in the accident, or at the farmhouse, did you?”

I shake my head and reply in text.

‘I only got a small bump on the head from the accident, which was from Jared pushing me out the door to save me. As for the farmhouse. I killed my friend’s parents while she slept down the hall. The amateur ambushers I can handle, but hurting a friend doesn’t sit well with me. Neither does the fact that Jared had to kill one of the men for me. I’ll never be ok with that.’

Griffin nods as he reads my words. “I get that. We want to protect the ones we love.”

My brows shoot high as I shake my head and tap out a response.
