I stare at him, admiring his strong profile and handsome face before gazing at my new engagement ring. “He’s going to come back, isn’t he?”

Accepting Marco’s ring means accepting my place in his life, a perilous world where we could be taken from each other at any time.

“Who?” He knits his brows together as he gazes back at me.

“Liam. He’ll send more men until he gets what he wants.”

Marco wraps me in his arms and kisses the top of my head. “Do you believe me when I tell you that I’ll always protect you?”

“Yes. I’ve seen you do it.”

His tone is callous when he asks the next question. “And do you believe that I’d destroy anyone who ever dared to hurt you?”

I respond with a nod, having seen the dead bodies at the estate before we left. The house was ruined, but Marco seemed unfazed, vowing to restore the home to the way it was, if not better than before.

“Then trust that the situation has been resolved and you needn’t worry about Liam Donohue.” He reclines against the pillows with a hand behind his head.

I mull over his words. “Resolved… Like how youresolvedmy father?”

Marco barks out a laugh, as if taking lives is as normal as changing his socks. “Yes, something like that.” He chuckles.

I’m still not sure how I feel about his criminal activities or his ruthless sense of justice. But I know he’s good to me, and I don’t want to be without him.

He lifts my chin until my gaze meets his. “The only thing you need to worry about is how much I love you.”

“You promise you love me?”Of course, he does.He just put a huge diamond ring on my finger. It’s still nice to hear him say it, though.

Marco’s eyes darken as they stare into mine. “I love you more than you could ever dream possible.”

My face relaxes into an adoring smile. “I love you too… future husband.”

“I like the sound of that.”

He might like being called my future husband, but not as much I’ll enjoy being his wife.
