I leave money on the table, and holding her hip, bringing her close to my body, I whisper in her ear, "We're not done for today. Let's go to my hotel."

"No, I'm not going."

I don't argue. I'm not a savage and I don't intend to attack her, but I know what we both want.

Outside, the driver waits for us, as do the cars containing my bodyguards.

I help Kennedy into the car, and after fastening her seatbelt, even though she initially pushes my hand away, I pull her towards me by the nape of her neck. "Marry me."

"Never."

"I'll never give up."

"You'll die trying."

The driver starts driving, and I instruct him to take us to my hotel, then raise the glass separating us from him.

"Take me home," she insists.

I silence her with a kiss, and after a few seconds struggling with me, she starts responding with the same passion as yesterday.

"Surrender just this once," I ask without separating our mouths.

"What are you saying?" She’s breathing heavily, her body soft against mine.

"Let me possess you once more, and if in the end, you see that it's not me you want, I'll give up."

"You don't seem like the type of man who plays to lose. If you're asking me for one chance, it's because you feel confident that I won't send you away afterwards."

"I know you won't. You want me."

"Sex isn't everything."

"And what we have is just sex? If that were the case, why, even without remembering what happened in my grandfather's library, have I never been interested in anyone else, Kennedy? I've always been sexually active. I enjoy fucking, and yet, it was only you I wanted. It's only you I want."

I see by the sparkle in her eyes that she's about to give in, but as soon as I capture her mouth again, hell seems to explode around us.

Hades

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

In an instant,I have Kennedy in my arms, and the next second, her warmth is ripped away from me. As if in a nightmare, while the car spins out of control, I see her being thrown against the door. She's only spared further injury because of the seatbelt.

"Kennedy."

"Hades." She seems on the verge of fainting, yet she reaches out her hand towards mine.

"What the hell is going on?" I ask the driver, holding her in my arms and lowering the window that separates us.

"Someone's trying to run us off the road." His tone is alarmed.

The car is still out of control, swerving violently, but the man maneuvers it skillfully, keeping us on the road.

Understanding dawns on me; someone wants us dead, and I suspect it's that damn family.

"Hades?"

"Shhh . . . It's going to be okay, love." I glance back, catching sight of one of the cars that guards us blocking the road, positioned to intercept whoever attacked in an effort to protect us.
