“Just try not to give him anything he can share with the King. Rakan is a wily old dragon, and he is not in our trusted circle,” Nyx cautioned.
“No pressure then,” Luka mumbled.
I took his hand and gave it a squeeze.
“Will you be needing me for anything else today?” Faolan stood, never one to wait for permission.
Nyx cocked a brow his way. “Somewhere you need to be?”
“Always.” Faolan winked and turned for the door.
“Check in please,” Nyx called after him. “I’m not chasing you around the city if I need you!”
Faolan simply waved a hand as he sauntered out of the room. He’d been antsy to get out of the kingdom before it was discovered he was a dragon by anyone of importance and made to stay.
I didn’t really blame him.
“Fine, go, all of you,” Nyx said, his eyes fixed on his mate in his arms.
Kiera and Jaxus excused themselves to their room, and I closed the door on Nyx and Zaria having a moment, turning to face Luka.
He looked worried about the King’s interest in him. Or maybe it was everything else and all the uncertainty hanging over us with his power.
“Will you come fly with me?” I said, deciding to take him somewhere quiet to just be together.
“You never have to ask.”
We raced to the landing platform hand in hand, and he packed my clothes in a bag as I shifted. I flew us to the nearest peak in the hills overlooking the city.
“Why here?” he asked, handing me back my clothes.
“It’s private. No one can listen to us.” I glanced around. “It’s only us for miles around.”
Luka tried to snatch back my clothes. “Then you don’t need these,” he purred, pulling me to him and enfolding me in his arms.
I touched his chest. “That was not my purpose. I meant to talk.”
“We talk every day,” he grumbled.
“We do other things every day, too,” I scolded. “You don’t go without. I brought you here to talk.”
He pouted, and I poked at his protruding bottom lip. “That is not attractive.”
He tipped his head to the sky. “She’s already finding me unattractive. I guess the honeymoon is over.”
I poked at his stomach to bring him back to me. “You know what is attractive?”
“Being woken in the night to find me having my wicked way with you?”
“No!” I swatted him.
“No? You said that was something you’d be into.”
I felt my cheeks heat. “It is, but that is not what I meant.”
He wriggled his brows. “Tell me then.”
“A fae who can talk to his mate about his worries.”
