“What?!?” she demanded, then shoved past him to the stairs.
“Watch your fucking attitude!” Davon hissed, taking hold of her arm and pulling her down the stairs.
“Let go! I was going down on my own, you don't get to manhandle me, prick!” she yelled loudly, then kicked him. When he kept pulling, she yanked back on her arm, then lungedforward and bit his wrist as hard as she could.
“Fucking CUNT!” Davon screamed, yanking his wrist away.
Sailor ran down the stairs and into the living room where Geo was, as Davon caught up with her and jerked her up short.
“What the fuck?” Geo raged, jumping up.
“Bitch tried to get away!”
“I wasn’t! I was coming down to Geo like I TOLD you I was going to! Let go, prick! Stop jerking me around!”
“You put hands on her again, and you lose your fuckin’ hands,” Mig told Davon darkly from a few inches behind them. “You best check yourself.”
“You got anger with me, you speak up, fool. You don't put hands on what’s mine. I TOL’ you her condition! Som’in happens, I’m’a beat YOUR ass, bitch,” Geo told Davon as Davon bulled up, even more angry now.
“She BIT me! Kicked me and bit me and ran!”
“You shouldn’t ’a put hands on ‘r!”
“Justin said she…”
“Don't bring me into this, man!” Justin spoke up quickly. “I said she wanted to come down on her own. YOU decided she needed an escort.”
“You SAID to go get her!” Davon went on to Geo. “You told Justin to go get her!”
“He did. He woke her, and she said she was comin’! You goin’ up there after her ta put hands on ‘r was you bein’...” Geo snarled, pulling his gun out.
Sailor cut him off before he could go on and work himself up to shooting Davon. “He didn’t hurt me! I’m fine, and he knows now that I can walk up and down stairs on my own. What do you need?” she asked Geo, hugging herself and hating the skimpy dress and how cold it was in the house.
“Watch that fuckin’ tone,” Geo growled down at her, his eyes glittering.
Sailor huffed, rolling her eyes, then shook her head. “Sorry,” she snapped, not sorry at all. “I’m just… I haven’t hardly slept, and he woke me up from another nightmare, and… today has been a lot. The last few days have been a lot. I’m sorry. What do you need, Geo?”
“Sit down,” he scowled, sitting down and motioning to the couch next to him. “I had these fools go back to school today. Tol’ ‘m they wasn’t droppin’ out this close ta graduatin’.”
“Good for them?” she asked, confused.
“They gonna be watchin’ you, Rue. You gon’ start back day after tomorrah. I got your excuse all done up, your mom's, and gram. School said no problem, you could catch up. They have your homework you missed.”
“Thanks,” she mumbled, looking at Davon and Justin. Justin was bright red, but Davon still looked pissed. Did Geo really trust him? Maybe she could convince Davon to help her escape?
“I got som’in else for you,” Geo went on, motioning to Mig.
Mig called back, and two men brought in two medium plastic totes set near her feet.
“What is it?” she asked, leaning up to lift the lid on the closer one.
“Careful,” Davon called more gently than he’d looked seconds before.
Sailor hesitated, then peeked inside.
It took her a moment to realize what she was seeing, then she went white and slammed the lid shut, shaking her head. “Is that… was that my algebra teacher?” she asked almost hysterically as she scooted away from the boxes.
“Jus’ his head,” Geo chuckled. “Other box is that other piece a shit who was tryna prey on you.”
