I frown at her. “Why do you ask?”
The doors slide open, and we get into it with our bodyguards following us. It’s not until the elevator is traveling downstairs that Heather replies.
“I just don’t understand why you would be picking anyone up tonight if you’re going to see Lita tomorrow.”
“Because I want to have sex.” I shrug my shoulders.
“Which you’re going to do tomorrow,” she points out.
My jaw tightens, and I fix her with a level stare, feeling a flicker of annoyance at her line of questioning. “And it’s tonight right now, not tomorrow.”
She and Harrison exchange a glance, then Heather says, “Right, but do you need to have sex with someone else when you have Lita?”
Heather’s question hangs in the air as the elevator doors open at the basement garage. Our bodyguards get out, and we follow them toward the SUV we’ll be taking to the event tonight.
“Lita’s amazing, but she lives in Seattle, and we’re not in a relationship. She’s cool with me sleeping with whoever I want, and she can do the same.”
“But you know she’s not,” Heather says as we get into the car.
She’s sitting in the middle seat between Harrison and me. I shrug my shoulders as I pull the seatbelt across myself to buckle it in and turn to look at her.
“It doesn’t mean she can’t if she wants to.”
“And you’dreallybe okay with that?” Heather raises an eyebrow at me.
I frown at Heather because I’m starting to get pissed off at her. She can be such a pain in the ass sometimes. I just want to have a good night, and she’s killing my mood.
“Yes. I’d be fine with that,” I bite out.
“Drop it, angel,” Harrison says, and Heather snaps her head around to look at him.
Whatever look he gives her, she turns back and says in a sulky voice, “Fine. If you say so, Sebastian Fox.”
We fall into silence, and I stare out the window while I think about Lita fucking someone else. I mean, I can’t say that the idea thrills me. The thought of her panting and wet beneath a man who isn’t me, moaning his name instead of mine, is uncomfortable. I don’t want to be in a relationship, though, so it would be incredibly unfair of me to hold her to a standard I have no desire to meet myself.
We get to the event and have pictures taken on the way in. At least five different people ask me about whether I’m having a baby, but I refrain from responding. I have no idea how much longer I can keep Lita a secret from the public, and that worries me.
The party is in full swing, even though our scheduled appearance isn’t due to happen for another couple of hours. The event is a celebration of the station’s top 100 songs for the summer. We came in number three, and they want us to perform “Rules to Break” live. April’s meant to be here performing her number-five song, but I can’t see her anywhere.
“Hi, guys. It’s good to see you. Let’s get through to the VIP area,” Ian says.
He’s our liaison from the radio station and coordinating our appearance tonight. We’re led to the VIP area, which is full of familiar faces, and we greet a few people while Ian gets us drinks. We’ve been there about ten minutes when Hayden shows up with Gabriel and Ariana.
“Hey, guys,” he says with a smile.
We exchange greetings, and Ariana hugs me before Ian asks them what they’d like to drink. Heather and Ariana walk away to sit nearby, and I take a sip of my whisky.
“What time are you flying tomorrow, Seb?” Hayden asks me.
“Eight or some other godawful time.” I cringe.
Even with flying that early, I won’t get to the hotel until almost midday. I should’ve gotten a flight out tonight, but these events can go late, so I figured it was better to travel in the morning.
The radio station’s DJs, Shawn and Clara, come up to us with microphones in their hands and big smiles on their faces.
“Hi, guys. We’re just going to get you to do a promo for the listeners live, if that’s okay?” Shawn asks.
“Sure,” Gabriel says with a smile.
