I nod and sigh. “Good. That’s good. I hope the asshole goes to jail for the longest possible time.”
“Do you want a drink?” Harrison asks.
“Sure. Make it a double.”
“I don’t have the good stuff,” he says with a quick smile at me as he heads to the bar.
“I’m sure I’ll survive as long as it’s alcohol.”
He comes back with two glasses of whisky and hands me one. I assume it’s Glenfiddich, but he’s right that it’s not as good as my forty-year-old stuff. If I had to guess, I’d say this one is the twenty-two-year-old one. Not bad, but not as good as mine.
I take a sip and then say, “Cooper didn’t tell me much. What did he tell you?”
“Not a lot, but I don’t think he had a lot of information to go on himself. He did say they don’t think they’ll need me to testify. The prosecutors think they have a pretty airtight case. There’s still a part of me that thinks he’s going to get away with it for some reason.”
The internal rage that I feel whenever I think about what the people at that hotel did comes bubbling to the surface. They drugged us with the intention of trying to get some scandalous photos to sell to the media. They got millions while we all got screwed. I wish I could go back in time and somehow stop Harrison from doing what he did that night.
“He’d better not,” I bite out.
Gabriel and Hayden arrive not long after, and we spend the afternoon talking and hanging out, playing some video games. The trial seems to hang in the air around us, though. It’s at the back of my mind all afternoon.
Ariana arrives from work first, escorted by her bodyguard, Ross Weber. She’s short, and her long brown ponytail swings as she strides over to where Gabriel’s sitting in an armchair to give him a hug.
She turns to look at us with concern in her bright green eyes and asks, “How are you doing, Harrison?”
“About as good as can be,” he says, giving her a tight smile.
“Of course.” She walks over to the sofa we’re sitting on and gives him a hug before giving one to Hayden. “It’s good to see you guys.” She turns to me and gives me a bright smile. “We missed you on Saturday, Seb.”
Just like that, Lita comes rushing back to my mind. I’m glad I’m clean, and a part of me wants to contact her and tell her the news, but it’s a bad idea. We had our night together, and look how badly that turned out.
Apparently, though, Becky and the guys left and came here when the limousine got back to the club. They hung out until the early hours of the morning before Becky went back to the hotel.
“I was a little preoccupied last week, but I’m here now,” I say as I give her a hug.
Ariana goes over and sits on Gabriel’s lap while Harrison gets her a vodka and orange. We’re discussing what food we want to order for dinner when Heather arrives.
Her long blonde hair is tied up on the top of her head, and she’s wearing what could only be described as a black and white suit dress. It’s pinstriped, and the left sleeve and dress are black, but the right sleeve, which becomes a blazer and buttons to the black dress, is white. When she turns her back to me to hug Harrison, I see there is a line down the middle of her back where the two different colored materials are sewn together.
Harrison holds her for a long time before she turns to me and wraps her arms around me. “Hey, Seb.”
“Hi, lover.” I use my nickname for her that started when the paparazzi began printing rumors about us having an affair, and I feel her cheeks move against mine as she smiles. “Are you okay?”
She lets me go and pulls back to nod. “Sure. It’ll all be over soon, right?”
“Yes, it will be.” I nod at her.
She greets everyone else before coming back to sit between Harrison and me. He puts his arm around Heather and smiles.
“So, Ariana, you wanted Greek food for dinner?” he asks her.
“If everyone else is up for it,” she says.
We all agree and order food to be delivered. Now that we’re all here, though, it isn’t long before the conversation turns back to the drugging.
“The press will go nuts as soon as they know,” Hayden says with a frown on his face.
“No doubt. They’ll want to rehash the whole mess as well.” I look over at Heather as I say it, and she purses her lips and nods at me.
