“Yeah, they are. Nothing’s happened since, but whatever was in the email has them spooked.” Hayden cringes.

“You haven’t read it?” Gabriel says.

“Not yet. I’m going to see Cooper tomorrow. He’s talking about hiring some specialist security person for the tour, and even Jesse said that he thinks it’s a good idea.”

Harrison breathes out slowly. “Shit, you know it’s bad when your bodyguard thinks you need a better bodyguard.”

“They’re worried about how exposed I’ll be during the tour. I mean, the slightly good news is that they’re not worried about any of you, just me.” Hayden gives us a tight smile.

“That’s not good for you, though.” Lita frowns. “I mean, I’m glad because I obviously want to know that the baby will be safe coming on the tour, but I’m worried about you.”

“Thanks, Lita. Look, we’ll just make sure there’s lots and lots of security. Don’t worry about me; I’ll be fine,” Hayden tells her.

“You’re my friend, Hayden; of course I’ll keep worrying about you.” Lita shrugs.

I smile and break the tension by teasing her, “Lita would be devastated if anything happened to her favorite member of Cruise Control.”

“Exactly,” Lita laughs. “None of you would be able to keep time at your concerts, and that would be terrible.”

A pained look crosses her face, and she rubs her bump, which she seems to be doing a lot more than usual tonight. We clear up our dinner things and move into the living area to sit on the sofas there to talk.

“Are you all right, Lita?” Ariana asks, catching my attention.

“Yeah, I’m fine. She’s kicking away at me, and it’s painful,” Lita says.

I look around from the discussion I’ve been having with Gabriel and Harrison to see Lita wincing in pain as she rubs her bump again. “You’re definitely okay, princess?”

Everyone is looking at her now, and she rolls her eyes. “I’mfine. I get pain in my bump every now and again. It’s a thing! I can feel her kicking me; it’s all good. I can’t wait to be induced tomorrow, though.”

She winces and rubs her bump again before she says, “If you’ll excuse me, I just need to use the bathroom.”

Lita gets up from the sofa and walks away to the bathroom. I frown at her departure and sigh.

“I’m sure she’s okay, Seb,” Ariana says kindly.

“She seems to be in pain. You don’t think there’s something wrong, do you?”

“I don’t know. Maybe she’s going into labor?” Ariana suggests.

“Do you think?” I gasp.

“I mean, she is forty weeks pregnant,” Ariana laughs.

We talk for another few minutes, but I keep my eyes on the hallway that Lita disappeared down and she doesn’t come back.

“Want me to go check on her?” Ariana offers, and I nod.

I’m on edge, waiting for her to return, but she comes back after less than a minute with a smile on her face.

“She says she’s fine, and she’ll be out in a minute.”

I nod and watch the hallway. Lita doesn’t come out after a minute, though. In fact, it’s a few more minutes before I hear her voice from the hallway.

“Holy shit!”

Fear floods through me, and I rush to the hallway to see her slumped against the wall.

“What’s wrong, princess?”
