“Well, you also both liked pool,” he points out.
“Okay, but you’re forgetting one vital point.”
“What?”
“I never sleep with them more than once. Lita had her turn on this ride, and now it’s time to find the next passenger.”
Sure, it’s a lie about only sleeping with her once, but Hayden doesn’t need to know that. Memories of waking up in bed with Lita this morning come to my mind. She was so soft and warm and beautiful. I very much liked waking up to that. It doesn’t mean that I want a relationship, though. She was just a good fuck.
“Don’t you ever think that you might want more than that, though?”
“No,” I scoff.
“Why not?”
“You know why not. I don’t want to be tied to one woman.”
Hayden sighs and shakes his head. “When you love someone, it doesn’t matter that you don’t get to be with anyone else because you don’twantanyone else.”
“Sounds like toxic monogamy culture, but okay.” I shrug my shoulders. “Besides, aren’t you and Ally free to be with other people?”
“Not quite. We’re free to find someone else, and we know we don’t want to be in a relationship, but we’re not sleeping with anyone else unless we find a person who we want to be in a relationship with.”
“What’s the point in saving yourself for her when you know you don’t even want a relationship? Why not just pick someone up tonight and get laid?”
“Probably because of what Lita said last night. It might not be love with Ally, but we do have a connection, and that makes it more enjoyable than ‘glorified masturbation.’” Hayden chuckles as he says it.
I hate that he’s brought up Lita again. Not just brought her up, but also one of the things she said when she was clearly being judgmental about my choices in life.
“Can we talk about something else? I’m trying to have a good night, and you’re killing the vibe by talking about last night.”
Hayden raises his eyebrows but shrugs his shoulders. “Sure.”
We finish dinner and make our way to Club Delirium. When we get there, our bodyguards escort us inside, and I’m reminded of coming here with Lita last night. Why the fuck did I decide to come here? I’m at the bar and about to order a beer when I remember Lita saying she’s never had a hangover by not mixing spirits and beer, so I order a whisky instead.
I keep my eye on the women around us, trying to see if there’s anyone worth picking up. A blonde woman nearby is eyeing me up, but I’m not particularly interested in her. Nobody worthwhile catches my eye as we head into the VIP area. We greet a few people before Hayden, and I drop onto the banquette by the wall and look out over the club.
“Good vibe tonight,” he comments.
I take a sip of my drink. “Yeah, plenty of women to choose from.”
There’s a brunette woman on the other side of the VIP area that I catch sight of. She’s wearing a tight black dress, with her long hair flowing down her back, and she reminds me of Lita. I curse myself for thinking of her again and take a big sip of my whisky. I keep my eye on the woman as we sit together, talking for about five minutes.
I say to Hayden, “I do love the Aventador, but I can see why you upgraded your Lamborghini. The Si—”
He cuts me off by bursting into laughter unexpectedly, and I blink at him in surprise.
“What?” I ask, annoyed by him cutting me off.
He grins at me and nods to the DJ booth. “‘Rules to Break.’ Listen.”
I listen, and he’s right. The DJ has mixed our song with an upbeat dance anthem. Sure enough, his drums are in the background of the song, and after the verse, Gabriel’s voice comes through, singing the chorus of our song.
“Nice.” I take another sip of my whisky and tap my foot in time with the music.
“Sorry, you were saying?” Hayden says.
“Oh yeah, the Sián is fucking nice.”
