I look over to see Lita walking toward us, being escorted by the assistant, who is looking hassled. The photographer had us leave a space between Hayden and me, and he gets Lita to stand there.
“Hi, princess. Took you long enough to get here,” I grin at her as I slip my arm around her waist and pull her closer to me.
Lita shrugs. “I didn’t know I was needed. I wasn’t expecting to be in any photos.”
We stop talking as we smile for a photo. Then, while the photographer checks the photos he’s taken, I look down at her.
“I told you before the wedding that you’re family now, Lita. You’re certainly my family, and that makes you part of the Cruise Control family as well.”
She flushes pink, and I kiss the top of her head while I give her a squeeze. We pose for more photos, and then the family drifts back up to the hotel while we do a Cruise Control photoshoot. It includes us four guys, as well as Heather, Ariana, and Lita. I’m stoked that they wanted to include her in this as well, but I’m saddened when I have to let Lita go so she can have photos taken with Heather and Ariana.
We watch them having their pictures taken as they laugh and talk. Lita doesn’t look too uncomfortable or out of her depth, and she smiles brightly as she stands to Ariana’s left, with Heather standing on Ariana’s right.
“Thanks again for including Lita. It means a lot to me,” I say to Gabriel.
“All good. I’m glad she’s here.”
“Who would’ve thought that competition would end with an extra person in your wedding photos?” I laugh.
“From what I’ve heard, you weren’t even her favorite band member,” he grins at me.
I shake my head. “I don’t know at all what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, really? She told me that Hayden was her favorite, and you were at the very bottom of the list.”
“Interesting. I’m not sure she’s ever mentioned that to me. Maybe you misheard?” I suggest with a grin.
“More importantly, who was second, Gabriel?” Harrison asks with a smirk.
Gabriel turns to look at him. “She wouldn’t tell me, but I’m sure it was me, of course.”
“Naturally,” Harrison agrees with a good-natured smile.
The photographer finishes with the ladies, and some more pictures are taken of the guys and me. Lita calls goodbye to us while it’s happening, so I wave at her and watch her walk away for as long as I can before I have to pose for another photo.
Eventually, the bridal party is led back up to the hotel, and we stand outside the reception. The sound of chatter and music comes from behind the doors as we wait to make our entrances.
We’re announced and enter the room to cheers from the guests. The room is filled with greenery and flowers the same way the ballroom was for the wedding. There are round tables surrounding a big dance floor in the middle of the room, with the bridal table at the front of the room. Lita is sitting at one of the tables two away from the bridal table, and I smile at her as I pass her, escorting Charlotte to her seat before I take mine next to Hayden.
The food comes out, and we eat and talk while drinking champagne. I’m having a great night, and I can’t wait to dance with Lita later. I watch her throughout the dinner, and she looks over at me occasionally and smiles.
It’s been such a good day, except for my fuck up this morning. But, hopefully, if we can just talk tonight, she might give me a chance. After Gabriel and Ariana have their first dance, the rest of the bridal party is invited onto the dance floor.
As Charlotte and I dance, she smiles at me and says, “Do you know how weird it is that I’m dancing with you?”
“Ariana said you’re a big fan, right?” I grin at her.
“Yup. You sang to me during the last concert of theHeart Wide Opentour,” she reminds me.
“Oh yeah, I remember now. I was going to fuck you, but then Ariana showed up.”
“Missed opportunity”—she laughs—“and my boyfriend is sitting next to the woman who’s having your baby tonight, so it probably won’t ever happen.”
I look over at Lita and smile because I don’t want to fuck anyone other than her.
“Probably not,” I agree. “What’s your boyfriend’s name?”
“Tim,” she says as she looks over at him.
