I press the button to listen to it, and her voice fills the room. “Hi Seb, it’s me. I just had a bad dream and needed to talk to you. I’ll see you at the wedding later.”
Her voice is shaky, and she sounds sad, so I call her back immediately, hoping she’s okay.
“Hi, Seb,” Lita answers, and she sounds like she’s crying.
“Hey, princess, are you okay? I got your message.”
“Yeah, I’m fine; I’m sorry for waking you.”
She doesn’t sound fine by any stretch of the imagination, and I wonder what she could’ve dreamed about that would affect her like this.
“You’re crying. Was it really bad?”
Lita whispers, “Yeah, it was.”
“Do you want me to come home?”
“No, you need to be there for the wedding tomorrow. I’ll be fine.”
She’s right. It’ll be a pain in the ass to wake up in time to be back here for breakfast. The thought of her alone and upset is only going to mean I’ll be awake worrying about her all night, though.
“Come to me, princess. I miss you anyway, and I don’t want you there on your own.”
“I don’t know, Seb, it’s three in the morning; I’d have to wake Ben up for him to come get me and everything.”
“Just get an Uber, Lita. I’m not normally one to forego security, especially when it comes to you, but I need you here with me. I doubt there’ll be any paparazzi outside at this time, but I’ll come down to the lobby and wait for you. I’ll deal with them if they’re there. Please come, princess?” I beg her.
“Okay, Seb. I’ll see you soon.”
I’m so incredibly relieved when she agrees, and I think I might’ve just gone home anyway if she’d refused. I just want to hug her and help her feel better. I sit up and move to the side of the bed, place my feet on the floor, and scrub my hand over my face before I yawn.
I didn’t bring sweatpants or anything, so I put my outfit from earlier back on and watch my phone after Lita shares her Uber trip with me. When she’s about five minutes away, I head down to the lobby and sit in a chair facing the entrance after I check and see there are definitely no paparazzi here at the moment.
She enters the lobby, holding an overnight bag in one hand and a garment bag in the other. When I see her, I stand and stride quickly over to her before pulling her into my arms. She starts crying into my chest, her tears wetting my shirt, and I hate that she’s so upset.
I use my fingers to tilt her face up to look at me. “Posso baciarti, princess?”
“Sì,” she tells me with a nod.
I drop my head to kiss her, tasting her salty tears along with the taste of her. Our tongues intertwine, and I pull her tighter against me.
“Come upstairs,” I say after I end our kiss. “You look wrecked, and we probably both need to get some more sleep. Do you want me to get you your own room?”
I gesture to the hotel desk where the overnight worker has been watching the show we’ve been providing for him, and Lita shakes her head. I smile at her, hardly able to believe she’s agreed to sleep in a bed with me. I just want to hold her tonight and help her feel okay.
I take her overnight bag off her, and Lita carries the garment bag. I wrap one arm around her waist and hold her pressed against me as we make our way to the elevator and then upstairs into my suite. I lead her into the bedroom, and we put her luggage away before we take off our clothes and get into bed.
Once we’re lying together in the dark, I cuddle up to her with her ass pressed against me. One arm is under her neck, and my other one is wrapped over her and holding her bump.
“Do you want to tell me what happened in your dream?”
“Not really,” Lita says with a sigh. “But I might feel better if I do. We were talking, and you told me that you wanted to name the baby ‘Beryl.’”
I can’t help but laugh at this and say, “Solid name choice, obviously. What happened then?”
“You got shot, right in front of me,” Lita says in a choked-up voice. “You were dead, and I’ve never hurt more than that. You were dead, and I couldn’t bring you back. I was screaming, and I couldn’t stop. Then I woke up.”
My blood runs cold as I listen to what she says. I can tell how this has affected her, and she’s told me how realistic her pregnancy dreams have been in the past.
