I shrug my shoulders and take another sip of my cocktail. It’s delicious, and I think I’ll have another one after this.

“Right. So, why are you drunk?” Gabriel looks at Harrison.

I laugh. “Can you believe I told a woman I’m in love with her? I can’t. Anyway, she doesn’t love me, so that’s that.” I take a sip of my drink and then add, “Oh, and she told me to go fuck someone else tonight.”

“Shit. I’m sorry, Seb,” Hayden says quietly.

“She really said that?” Gabriel sounds incredulous.

“Yup. I told her that I’m in love with her, and she said that I should sleep with someone else tonight because she doesn’t love me like that.”

Gabriel winces. “Ouch.”

“I can’t love you the way you want me to.”

Lita’s words come to my mind, causing that searing pain despite my current drunken state.

“Anyway, I want to get fucked up and celebrate thatyouget to be happy, Perfect Gabriel. At least you found a woman who loves you. Some of us can’t be that lucky, I guess.”

There’s silence for a few seconds after I speak, then Harrison says, “Maybe you should go home, Seb.”

“No. I want to celebrate. Don’t shit on my day, Harrison Fletcher. God knows Lita already did that.” I take another big sip of the cocktail.

Gabriel looks at him and says, “It’s fine, Harrison. Let’s just have a good night.”

Thank fuck. They move on from grilling me, and I do have a good time watching the magicians that are roaming around the room performing at the different tables. I talk to a few of Gabriel’s guests but struggle to remember the names of some of them.

After half an hour, my phone starts buzzing in my pocket, and I wonder if it’s Lita. I’m disappointed when I pull it out and the words ‘My Lover’ are on the screen.

“Hey, sexy legs. Want to have phone sex?” I ask her.

“What the hell is going on, Sebastian?”

“Is that a no?”

“Of course it’s a no,” she scoffs. “What’s going on?”

Despite the fact that I don’t really want to have sex with Heather, I feel the sting of her rejection in a way I haven’t before. It’s a reminder that the only two women I’ve ever loved didn’t love me back.

Unlovable.

“I’m partying,” I tell her.

“So I’m told, but what happened?”

“If you’re calling me, you already know.” I scowl at Harrison, who is talking to Hayden nearby, and they’ve been joined by Declan now.

“Talk to me, Seb. What’s going on?”

Even though I told the guys, with the mood I’m in, I just don’t feel like confiding in Heather. It’s all too painful, and she’s probably the last person who I want to talk to about it.

“It’s between Lita and me. You might be surprised to hear this, but not everything involves you.”

“I’m worried about you,” she says quietly.

“Don’t worry about me, lover. I’ll survive. I always have. You know what they say, the best way to get over someone old is to get under someone new. I wonder how many someones it’ll take for me to feel better?”

“Seb.” She sighs heavily.
