“Can I sign the lease for that first one now?” I ask while we’re still standing in the kitchen of the second apartment.
Vincent's eyebrows raise, and he asks, “Are you sure?”
“Yes. I can have the keys today as well, you said?”
“Correct.”
We sign the paperwork, and Daryl drives me to Vincent’s office so I can get the keys for the place. We get back to Lita’s apartment around three, and it’s only half an hour later that Benjamin arrives and Daryl brings him up to the apartment.
“Hi, Benjamin, nice to meet you,” I say with a smile as I shake his hand.
“You, too. Call me Ben.”
“Okay, Ben. Well, we’re just waiting for Lita to let us know when she wants us to go and get her.”
“Not a problem, Mr. Fox. I’ll wait by the door for you.”
I nod, and both bodyguards head to the entrance. I finally have a moment to breathe, and I decide to finally call Cooper. I’ve been dodging his calls all day, and it amuses me that it’s after five in Chicago. So, technically, his workday is done. Not that he’s not always on call.
“Sebastian. About fucking time you called me. I’ve been trying to get hold of you all day.”
“I’ve been busy. What’s up?”
“You know what’s up. What’s the plan for the paparazzi? Are you going to give a statement?”
I shake my head even though he can’t see it. “No. I don’t see any reason to give any statements. I’m moving Lita somewhere safer as soon as I can, and I’ve got her a bodyguard to keep her safe.”
“This is a complete disaster. If you’d taken my advice, none of this would’ve happened.”
Fire runs through my veins, and I growl at him, “Get fucked. We’re done with this conversation. In the meantime, Lita is going to be attending Gabriel and Ariana’s wedding. If you so much asbreathein her direction, I’ll put you in the hospital.”
“Really, Seb—”
I hang up the call because I don’t have any desire to hear another word out of his mouth.
I hate him so much.
It takes a long time for me to calm down, but eventually, I manage it. I figure out how to get Netflix on her television, and I zone out watchingLucifer. Just after four, my phone lights up with a text Lita sent me. I feel guilty when I realize this is the second reminder, and I managed to miss the first.
If you guys want to come get me, I should be finished about five. How did it go with the apartments?
I quickly type out a reply to her.
We’ll be on our way soon. Found a place for now. I can show you tonight if you want? I already have keys, and it’s furnished.
It doesn’t take long for her response to appear.
Sure. We’ll still need to go to my place so I can get clothes and stuff, though.
I stare at it for a second, rereading it to be sure it means what I think it does, but I call her to check.
She’s laughing as she answers my call, “Hi, Seb.”
“You’re willing to stay there? From tonight?”
“Yeah, you said you have the keys already. I assumed you meant we could stay there, was I not right?”
“No, we can stay there right away. It’s a month-by-month lease and furnished, as I said. I’m just surprised because I thought I’d have to talk you into it,” I tell her truthfully.
