“So, how are things with you and Heather?” Sebastian asks.
“What do you mean?” I say innocently as I feel heat rushing to my cheeks.
“I think he means that we all saw you two leaving my party together,” Gabriel helpfully reminds me.
“Oh, that.” I turn to grin at him.
“Yes, that,” he laughs.
We went our separate ways on Sunday morning after we spent the night together at the hotel, but in the afternoon, she called me and asked if I wanted to come over to her apartment. I did, of course.
I can’t wipe the stupid grin off my face, and I tell them, “Yeah, it’s good, I guess.”
“So are you two back together, then?” Hayden asks.
I shake my head. “No. Well, maybe. I don’t want to push her at all. Whatever she wants is what we’ll be.”
It’s the truth. At this point, I would take random hookups with Heather for the rest of my life if that was all she wanted from me. I don’t think it is, though. I’m not sure what she needs emotionally in order to enter into a relationship with me again, but whatever it is, I’ll try and find it for her.
“I’m happy for you guys,” Gabriel says.
“Thanks.”
We pull into Reid Music’s parking lot and pile out of the SUV. Gabriel stretches his arms out and twists his torso from side to side.
“Shotgun on not sitting in the third row on the way back,” he says.
“That’s not how shotgun works, you know,” Sebastian tells him as he slides out of the car.
“It’s how it works for me today.” Gabriel throws his arm around Sebastian’s shoulders. “Are you ready to have your little guitar-playing mind blown, my friend?”
Sebastian puts his arm around Gabriel’s shoulders as well and says, “Lead the way, munchkin. Is there a yellow brick road to follow on the way to the magic land of guitars?”
“Nope. Just asphalt,” Gabriel says with a laugh, and they start to walk toward the building.
I smile and follow them with Hayden by my side and our bodyguards trailing us. When they reach the building, Sebastian pulls the door open and heads inside. By the time I make it inside the building, the receptionist is practically fainting in excitement.
“I’m just, uh, going to go get Xav—I mean, um, Mr. Reid,” she stammers.
As she rushes away, both Gabriel and Sebastian chuckle.
“You know,” Hayden says slowly, “I’m kind of offended that she didn’t act that way when I came here before.”
Sebastian turns to grin at him. “You just don’t have my pure animal magnetism.”
“Yeah, that must be it,” Hayden snorts.
“I hate to tell you, but it’s probably not you, Seb. She was pretty flustered when Gabriel came here last time,” I tease him.
“Hey, it’s still not Hayden, though,” he smirks.
Hayden shoves him playfully, and we all laugh as the receptionist appears back in the room with Xavier Reid by her side.
“Gentlemen,” he greets us with a big smile. “It’s so nice to see all of you here today.”
“Hi, Xavier,”—I step forward to shake his hand—“it’s good to see you again. You’ve met Gabriel and Hayden, obviously, but this is the last member of our band, Sebastian Fox.”
“The man needs no introduction,” Xavier laughs as he shakes Sebastian’s hand. “I know who you are.”
